Especially useful for first pass cleaning of the grill or iron skillet. Moves the major, stuck - on gradoo, allowing easier scrubbing with finer scrubber.

Let's start from the beginning. This month I decided to add to my FABULOUS Lodge Cast Iron cooking collection the Lodge LPG13 Pro Grid Cast Iron Grill/Griddle (which I will post a review next as ANOTHER great buy!) from Amazon. As soon as I received my new grill I used it that night. UMMMMMM my husband and I gobbled up the most delicious steak we have ever had!!! So once we licked our chops and began to pick up the dinner dishes I realized that getting this grill/griddle clean would be a little harder than my other cast iron pans, pizza pan, single serve flat skillets/pans, etc. So I began a quick hunt on Amazon for something that would get in between the grill "grooves" which always seems easier to do BEFORE you buy and cook on the product. That's where this Mail cast iron pan scrubber came into the picture. It arrived two days ago and I used it yesterday on my (are you ready?) five day old dirty grill. You see after I struggled cleaning it the first time after our delicious steak, I used it again, but this time left it on my stove until this amazing product arrived. There was no way I was going to struggle cleaning those grooves again!! So when I opened the packaging to use this cast iron scrubber I knew it was going to do what most reviewers on Amazon said it could or it was not. Simple as that. Well, first I placed my very crusty grill in my sink and filled it with warm water letting it sit for about twenty minutes, then I grabbed my cast iron chain and the rest is history!!! Folks, within 5-6 minutes the entire crusty grill was cleaned. Wow!!! This little gadget (fits nicely in the palm of my hand) allowed me to get in between every "lifted" grill area, which is impossible to do thoroughly even with a conventional grill brush, believe me I tried. I was amazed. Sure, I had to apply a little elbow grease, but just a little. The crust and grime came off, using only warm water, in an instant. After using it, I placed it in my sink to soak for about 2 minutes and rinsed it out. It rinsed clean leaving no residue at all between the chained links. It is hanging now above my sink on a tiny hook, awaiting its next mission impossible, which is no longer impossible. So here is my recommendation. You want delicious, savory cooking experiences? Purchase cast iron cookery. You want your grills cleaned very well with little effort? Stop wasting your money on brushes that supposedly clean cast iron grills and make a one time purchase of this amazing little item, you will not regret it. In response to reviewers that complain about the cost, initially it does cost more than a brush, but in no time you will see the cost effectiveness of something that does what you need it to do instead of something that does not. You win when something works. You win in time, effort and money.

Great little item. Works well on my cast iron cookware, though admittedly not as well as I had hoped (but my hopes were quite high based on all the raving reviews). Seems to do a good job at getting the stuck on bits off, while leaving the seasoning well intact. One note... within the first 5 minutes of using this thing it ended up in the garbage disposal twice. Once this gets a little grease on it (I was cleaning a pan used to sear steak) it becomes slick as snot. It's not so slick it becomes hard to handle, but once you drop it in the bottom of a slippery sink it's down the drain before you even knew what happened. So, just a word of warning, either make sure you're using this with your disposal off, or use it on another side of the sink. I was shocked (and a bit impressed, honestly) at how quickly this thing slips right down the drain.
