The other cheaply built one I bought failed within a few miles. Amazon service was fantastic. I chose this Eling because I liked the traditional look and simple, direct hookup. Wired it hot into my headlight switch on my 1951 IHC bus and hooked the backlight into the parklight lug on the switch. Ground to a screw under the dash. The pickup lead is like a mini coax cable that firmly threads to the speedo unit. Very simple for me to install as I just used a dryer vent sized hose clamp to secure it to my steering column. I like the way it's built. There are 2 buttons on the back for setting the color of light and the miles function. I have it set to trip and odometer. The trip gives your distance in miles and 10ths and odo rounded miles. I completely cut power to it by switching off my master cutoff switch and it still kept the trip and miles stored and they appeared when power was restored. Good! To reset the trip meter you press the button on the BACK of the speedo. Keep that in mind. This is well made and works well. Odo and speed are accurate. You could use this ruggedly built unit on just about anything. So far I've only gone exactly 9.3 miles as a test but I could not be more satisfied. This is the one you want for old hot rods or bikes or whatever. It seems tough and well sealed against moisture as well. I'm going to get another one soon for my Harley 72 XLCH.

Looks great, easy install, worked first time. 4 stars cause the instructions have little to no English

Worked great! Be advised every time you shut the truck off the trip od resets, but as long as I keep track it no biggie.

UPDATE- The total miles odometer does NOT go to 99,999.9 miles as the description states, it only goes to 9,999.9 miles and then resets back to 0. Had I known this I would have bought a different unit, I still recommend it but I am dropping the score a couple points. I am a contractor and I pull my trailer everywhere. It is hooked to my truck 3-4 days a week traveling all over the place. I needed a way to keep track of mileage on the trailer for maintenance purposes, and I'm a gadget guy anyway. There there two things I do not like, but they are not deal breakers. 1-the trip odometer doesn't match mileage with the lifetime odometer, the trip odometer appears to rack up more miles than the lifetime odometer, not by much, appears to be off 1 mile per every 100. 2-there are two trip odometers, trip 1 resets to zero every time the speedo is fired up, cool, says this in the description, so knew that going in. Trip 2 maxes out at 999.9 miles, it does NOT roll over to 0 like the trip odometer in your car does. You will have to press the reset button on the back of the unit to reset that. So if you're using this in a boat, hobby car, side-by-side or whatever, you will need to make sure you can easily get to the reset button. It is waterproof. I have mine mounted into the side of a storage box on the tounge of my trailer. I sealed around the unit to keep water out of the storage box. The face of the unit is exposed to the elements, we've had some serious rain and I have driven in serious rain, still dry with the face of it being outside the box. I do not know how accurate it is as I cannot see it while in my truck. I like the black dial, white numbers and red needle. 7 different back light colors, what's missing there is a no backlight option, but then again, just don't wire the backlighting to power. Great unit if you need one.
