Almond - (3 Minute Setup) Touchscreen Wireless Router/Range Extender

I purchased this unit solely on the reviews given that I am not a huge techie. The reviews seemed to indicate that it's easy to set up and worked well. I will say this after ordering, this product AND THE COMPANY BEHIND IT are amazing.I purchased my first unit because Xfinity sent me a new router "to be able to fully take advantage of increased speeds in our area". They failed to mention however that their new router had a built in wireless component. My wireless situation is a bit difficult due to the layout of our home and the custom set up I was using was barely acceptable as it was. After plugging in Xfinity's new router w/ built in wifi router it was terrible. I purchased the Almond to attempt to extend the range.For some reason the Almond did not recognize the signal from the Xfinity router unless it was literally sitting right next to the Xfinity wireless router, which did me no good. I don't know if the initial unit I got was bad, or if it was an issue with the new Xfinity router. I can tell you this, I called Almond and the gentleman I spoke with, while a little difficult to understand, was amazing. He helped me, called me back the next day just to see if the issue was handled and to offer any additional assistance, and I believe even e-mailed me a follow up. Not obnoxious in any way, just genuinely wanting to follow up. I returned the first unit.In the meantime, I called Comcast to explain that their built in wifi router sucked and to ask what the solution was. The Comcast person explained that they could remotely turn off the wifi component of the router (no mention of THAT anywhere in writing...) and I could use my previous Linksys router if I wanted, to which I gladly accepted. This got me back to square one of having marginally acceptable coverage throughout my home. After this I got to thinking, I wonder if the Almond unit would work with my Linksys router and actually make my coverage better. Based on this hope I ordered a replacement unit several weeks after returning the first.The second unit arrived very timely as Amazon always seems to do. I was familiar with the set up process which takes about 2 minutes (1:45 of that is just waiting for the unit to boot and connect to your network for the first time) so I plugged the unit in, selected that I wanted to use it as a range extender, entered my network password and ta-da it was extending my network. The really cool thing is that it saves it's settings, so if we go back by the lake I can unplug it and take it by a window on that side of the house and I have 2-3 bars of wifi probably 150-200 feet at the end of the pier. No re-entering passwords, etc. Just unplug, plug it in where you're going to be, and it just works. Normally, I leave it plugged in more in the middle of the house in the basement - this extends strong signal to all parts of our home. In fairness, I don't know if my first experience was actually an issue with the Almond unit, with the Xfinity unit, or if the two just don't play well together for some reason.Bottom line - this is a really cool, seamless product. It could not be easier to set up, has really cool "beta" features like displaying weather or clock on the screen for the 99.9% of time when you're not actively using the screen to do something to the router, and it just looks cool. No one would have any idea that this is a router/range extender if you plugged it in and put it on your desktop or on your bookshelves. And after getting it all running and being ecstatic, you still get a follow up letter like this (albeit a form letter):"We hope you are doing well.As the inventor of Almond, I would like to thank you for taking a chance on our new company and choosing our wireless router. I've been an electronic consumer for decades and for the very first time, I have to say Securifi has truly impressed me with NOT just their product, but their superior customer support quality. I ordered the Almond as a range extender and it arrived the next day, directly shipped from Securifi. As far as user manual, guess what? You won't need it, since it's so easy to setup from the touch screen user interface. Who really enjoys reading manual anyway? Maybe some of you do but I don't.Product setup: I had it up and running within 5 minutes (could be less but it went too fast so I lost count). It connected flawlessly to my Apple Extreme router without issue. I quickly tapped into the Firmware update menu, and see if I need to do any updates. As of today (3/6/2013), the firmware has already been updated to the latest at the time they shipped it. Awesome! The range is very good. I would give it a 8 out of 10 as it doesn't have an external antenna, but it will probably spoil the elegant design of its simplistic look. That part is totally forgivable.Customer support: This is really worth buying the product alone as you don't see this kind of service everyday these days.When I setup the Almond, I noticed that the _Almond was attached to the SSID of my router. I don't want that to be attached since I hate to toggle between the Router's and the Almond's SSID manually. I basically want my connection seamless. I'm too embarrassed to mention of what I have overlooked, but I couldn't find the way to make the SSIDs identical. I called Securifi's tech support but I hung up while I had another incoming call. About 5 minutes later, I got a call from Securifi, I thought, that was strange as I didn't leave any voice mail to them, but they called me anyway. The female lady I spoke to, spoke perfect American English, which I had absolutely NO problem understanding, introduced herself professionally, and walked me through the setup process patiently. Guess what? Within two minutes (this time, I did count), the annoying _Almond SSID is gone! She did resolved my issues effectively.I praise Securifi for two things, Outstanding product with a beautiful and elegant design, and a top-notch, out-of-this world customer support. What more can you ask for? They will come up with a newer product, which will be released around September. For sure I will buy from them again.Hope this helps you to make your purchasing decision. Cheers.James+++++++++++++++++++++++ Follow up review - after 20 days of deployment 3/26/2013 ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++Observations:1. Unit is still working great with no hiccups. The only time I have to restart the unit, is when I had to adjust the wireless channel. Almond didn't seem to pick it up automatically but self-fixed after the reboot2. When the unit was situated right next to my aquarium (17 gallons), the signal was weakened, but everything back to normal when I re-situated it to a different spot. It appears that the water volume has affected the Almond adversely.3. The time-out settings tweak: If I put 1000 seconds on the time-out setting, the LCD appeared to be lit all the time and doesn't go dark anymore. This might be helpful if you want to "show off" your Almond screen. :-)4. Weather (temperature) does NOT refresh automatically until you hit the "REFRESH" button.Conclusion: Definitely no major flaw at all and I'm still a happy camper.

Router with touch screen!!!! have you ever changed your router name and password without connecting it to a PC, have you ever blocked unwanted users, set security just by touching a router? I dreamed of it but came true with this Almond. Power outage and internet drop from my provider (repeated complaints go in "air", "tell" you what: big name but poor service!) is a common thing at my place and setting my Usr name and Pwd enabled connection each time right has been a big pain some where! ALMOND solved the misery :) Now internet connection a touch away, also you don't need to sit looking at blinking light on your router to turn green, Almond's touch screen tells you the story. If you already have a router, use it as WiFi repeater, have an Eth cable from router, use it as access point in other room, it's multi-purpose! We don't normally go near routers but with Almond,,,,,you can't stop touching it, you don't want to hide it but display it, so adorable! You can use it to display weather or time, that's y it's multaii!Now that we have touch screen, we can demand any thing ;) a foto frame, movie player, radio, alarm, reminder, to do list n my list goes on :))I would have loved more ports for physical connection (I have 2 PCs n a printer) but remedied with a dumb cheap hub, not at all a deal breaker. Finally, truly impressed with the signal out put, a wonderful device with future-proof technology and good VFM.

Its was truly a fantastic experience using my new almond router.Very innovative very different from the rest others.I was a fan of Cisco products in the past but now I have become a huge fan of my new almond router.And the Best part is that the router doesn't need any junky or heavy setup,its just like plug and play and the display screen looks awesome like weather updates,time popping in making it look even better. And not to mention world class customer care (satisfaction) service are almost as best as HP care services.Really worth the price.

This one gives you peace of mind avoiding hassles in setting up a router! Bought it on a friend's suggestion and works wonderful. I use it as a repeater to extend my old router WiFi, does its job pretty well and now I have internet in my first floor bed room. Skeptical at first about its 3 min set up Ad but it's all true and it took little less than 3 min including unpacking it! Never expected a router or repeater set up to be so easy, now all my devices are connected and I have buffer-less streaming. We normally get to see good routers, powerful routers but this one is good, powerful and BEAUTIFUL!Cons: Now, Almond puts up signals such a far that even my neighbors can see my Almond's signal and keep on asking me for its password :(

Absolutely brilliant product. Very easy setup and truly it takes only 2 minute. Also, look wise, it can be used as a show piece in your Drawing/ Living room. It is certainly a value for money. Extremely helpful for the beginners. No need to connect a system to this Router for initial set up. Quite Intuitive!!!
