Wapsi Deluxe Fly Tying Starter Kit

I wanted to start tying my own flies due to there being no fly shops within 100 miles.. This kit was perfect. The vice works great for the $$.. You do need to take a few mins to adj the tension handle to lock the hook and vice head at the same time.. this took a couple of tries.. Ive had this kit for about a a month or so and have no regrets..

All in all, this was a good way to get started in fly tying. The instruction booklet was clear and helpful, and the materials were plenty to get me going in this new hobby. My only complaint is with the vise. Tying flies is fiddly enough as it is, but the vise just added frustration because it needed constant adjustment. It just didn’t hold the hook and materials in place consistently. It wasn’t long before I ordered a better quality rotary vise. I would still recommend this starter kit, but just know that you will soon be purchasing a new vise if you plan to stick with tying.

This is a great entry level fly tying kit that immediately allows you to make several known flies with the included materials and instruction book. This kit has been around almost forever and is still quite good for learning the craft and progressing to more difficult patterns.

I bought this for my boyfriend as a present. He'd been hinting about wanting to get into fly fishing so after buying him the rod and reel I figured he needed to learn the art of fly tying too. He loves it! It has become his new obsession. His only complaint so far is it doesn't come with enough colors. He wanted for vibrant reds and pinks which this kit doesn't provide. It's a great starter kit!
