Dinosaurs and Other Prehistoric Life (DK Children's Anthologies)

I have always had a great love of reading. I wanted to instill that in my children, but as a mom of boys it has proved difficult. Us girls like stories and chapter books and far away lands. I find my boys don’t like to read like that lol. But nevertheless I find reading is very important to expand the mind and vocabulary as well as learning. This book is perfect. My 9 year old son is just as excited as me with how cool the book looks, with its details on the cover you can feel with your hands, its golden edges to make it look fancy, and it’s amazing photos. He’s a big fact kid, he would read about facts all day but sit down to a chapter book and he might be in tears. Finally I found a series of books to foster his love of the world, and reading. He even sits and reads this to his younger brother who cannot read yet and is excited to do so. Have already ordered more from the series/ and DK.

My first impression of this book when pulling from the shipping box was “wow!” The cover is beautiful, it had gold colored etchings on the front and back of the book. It even has the gold edging on the pages and an attached ribbon bookmark. I side th pages feel sturdy and are beautifully illustrated. Each dinosaur has a drawing and information about them, including which period they lived in. There is also a table of contents and family tree in the front of the book. In the back pages explaining how to pronounce the names, index and even an illustration index with some facts. I bought this to go with a prehistoric curriculum for one of my kids who loves dinosaurs. I would highly recommend this book for anyone who loved dinosaurs or just wants more information about them.

My grandson knows so much about dinosaurs! It is not a passing phase -- so I need to start learning and keep up with him. This. Book. Is. Fantastic!! Separates the different eras and dinosaurs so you know what's what, no confusion as to which dinosuar lived when. Appendices are absolutely fantastic!! Tree of Life for dinosaurs! And four pages of pictures grouping dinosaurs into their eras. Then there are the amazing summaries of many many dinosaurs I've never heard of! As well as the usual ones everyone has heard of but now I can know about them. Just a high high quality book of information Plus! The book itself is just beautiful binding, thick paper pages, excellent real-life art, colors. Again: high high quality book!

Bought this for my nephew for Christmas. He loves all things dinosaur, and this book is a lovely find. Lots of beautiful pictures and facts to keep him entertained for years to come. Very much worth the money.

The book itself is GREAT, we have all the DK books like this, with the gilded cover it is a beautiful bookshelf or coffee table level book. Itnis filled with informative info on each page. Each page a new and interesting piece of our earth’s secrets unveiled. My son, 12 loves these books, and my daughter loves to have me read them too. Perfect for bedtime as each page is maybe a minute worth of reading and observing the photos. However, Amazon shipped this book three times, without wrapping it or packing so the book did not move. And subsequently, and despite repeated customer service contact, the book came banged up on the beautiful corners, marred and broken. We ended up returning and purchasing the same book from Target for the same price, but they shopped it how a book should be shipped,wrapped and protected.

Stunning artwork and knowledge. This book is such a collector’s item for any homeschooled momma who loves to read and set up unit studies with their kids!

This is a very nice book. It looks beautiful on a shelf with the gold edged pages. And the inside is just as nice. Lots of information, but nothing too crazy that would be too complicated for a child. I plan on adding more of this line of books to my daughter's collection. My only complaint is the lack of packaging. I understand that the shipping dept at Amazon is usually responsible for how stuff ships, but this book came with no wrapper of any kind, no padding, nothing. And it was in a box that was too big so it slammed around with every bump on it's journey. The corners look like a book I've owned for a decade, rather than a brand new book. I include this in the product review, because I have a feeling this comes from the manufacturer in insufficient packaging and Amazon doesn't care enough to pack it properly.

We were given one of these books as a Christmas gift and my kids quickly became fascinated with it. We have now bought all in the series and read at bedtime. They are kind of like miny fun encyclopedias with a visual reference guide at the end of the book. Each page has a beautiful picture/drawing and a short paragraph with fun facts about the animal/plant/dinosaur/fossil/etc being depicted. I hope they come out with more in the series!

Gorgeous book but not packaged well at all. considering it’s a heavy book it only came in a Jiffy bag causing damage to the hard cover. Christmas present so disappointing.

A great book for little dinosaur lovers. Lots of beautiful images, and information on a wide variety of prehistoric creatures. My daughter loves the DK Anthology series.

This is a great book but not as good as An Anthology of Intriguing Animals, which I would highly recommend.
