Very happy with the product and process. My only issue was that one of my 20 VHS-C tapes supposedly was blank so I only received 19 DVDs for the price of 20. I guess I would expect a partial refund since the one that was blank was not processed.

I purchased 2 of these boxes for my mom for a Christmas present. She sent in VHS tapes to get converted.She called to make sure they changed the address so the DVD's would get to her house. They confirmed her address.They ended up sending them to my old house. We have not been able to obtain the DVD's and the original VHS tapes. She has talked to many different people within the company and they have not been helpful.They do not care about your family memories and have proven that they cannot be trusted with them.

I received Legacybox as a Christmas gift from our son. I sent 3 reels of 8mm and Super8 sound movies to them. As insurance, in case they got lost, I backed all onto my iPhone.The day the DVD and digital download was sent to me, I received an email from Legaclybox saying there would be "no sound" from my movies -- that "less than 1% of film sent to them had sound". I find that hard to believe! And, their brochures state that they use "state of the art Motion Picture Equipment". Our 37 year old movie projector, silver screen and iPhone easily captured the sound that was present on our old films!!I checked with Costco and they confirm in their brochure (and I checked at the site) that they capture sound when they digitize film.I had to give a star so I gave one star because our film was not lost and returned to us.

Short version: Hi8 video conversion is done in lossy fashion at a very low sample rate. Result files were sent back on a USB 2.0 stick - 3.0 has been out since 2010, 3.1 is current standard. Despite relatively high cost of service they are super cheap on the final product, seriously compromising quality. Disclaimer: I purchased this directly from LB, not via Amazon. Longer version: Sent in a mixture of 120 minute Hi8 and Digital8 tapes to be converted. Not quarrel with the process, but when I got the digitized version back I was stunned to see that the average size of the encoded files was under 1GB each. They returned lossy-compressed videos (H264) at a paltry 1600 kbps bitrate - video forums suggest 3000-6000 kbps. I had converted a few clips at my local library's video archiving lab, and the video I captured (3000 kbps) is clearly superior. The LegacyBox videos has noticeable pixelation on playback that my video does not. It is galling that they charge so much (about $20/tape even with discount) and return such a sub-par end product. They are skimping on quality so that they could fit my tapes on a 32GB USB stick - a 2.0 USB stick no less, when 3.0 has been around since 2010 and 3.1 is the current standard. Suffice to say I'm keeping my receipts for the inevitable class-action lawsuit. Bitterly disappointed in this product. Rating: 1 out of 5.

Legacybox is a terrible service. They didn't convert most of the video tapes I sent in, and what was converted didn't have sound. Save the time and hassle and get a kit to do it yourself.

My father passed away this past August and as I was going through his things, I came across all his previous home movies, slides, and pictures from when my siblings and I were very young. I decided to send the movies to Legacy Box to put them on a DVD. The customer service was exceptional, especially when I had questions and they had my original movies and the DVD's back in a very short time period. I have used them a couple times now and have been very pleased with the results. Thank you Legacy Box for saving part of my heritage.

I converted my digital videos from when my daughter was born. She is now 17. The quality was incredible. The sound did not come through on one but otherwise they were amazing.

Great experience. This was a Christmas gift for my sentimental husband, but it's our kids who can't stop watching the many CDs of family videotapes we have now. Legacybox is a great idea and a wonderful company. First, I came across a coupon after I purchased the box and they honored it. Most companies wouldn't do that, so I was really impressed. Directions for returning our full box were clear and easy to follow. I was nervous about sending these very special videotapes half way across the country, but everything was returned in perfect condition. The shipping boxes are pre-labeled and strong, high quality. This is a first rate company that really cares about their products and service. I highly recommend Legacybox.
