Tamiya Models North American P-51D Mustang Model Kit, 12 Years & Up

i've been away from styrene models since i was a kid using Testors and a brush. i picked up the hobby again this year, and finally got around to learning to airbrush models. This was the fifth model i did this year, and it was my first Tamiya product. Now the light bulb goes on... the old Monogram and Revell models are fun, but the recessed panel lines and wonderful mold quality of Tamiya will help take your models to the next level. Parts fit is fantastic (especially after battling through a Revell P-40 before this) and the decals are great. Documentation options seemed good, but i'm not going for museum quality replicas. Having recessed panel lines, i was also able to use washes for subtle differentiation between panels which really was a nice finishing touch. Can't wait to do another Tamiya kit!

Easy build. Not a ton of detail but a fin fast build. got this done in one day including painting.

Box came slightly damaged, but parts fine. Easy to paint, fun to make. 3 sets of decals, easy to put on. Overall great late-war model to add to a collection. However, I recommend doing Academy's 1/48 p-39 first.

I recently got back into modeling after about 10+ years and this was my first Tamiya model I’ve built. Much more detail and better fitting parts than the Revells I’ve been doing all my modeling life. Only problem I had was attaching the right landing gear,though I believe that had more to do with extremely thick testors glue not getting into the small spaces. Decal quality was excellent (thick/no tears) although if you’re looking for something along the lines of pin-up girls you need to go aftermarket,the sets you get do feel a bit PG for a warbird.
