.com Plant yourself in front of the television for another minimarathon of Green Acres episodes starring the George Burns and Gracie Allen of Hooterville, Oliver Douglas (Eddie Albert) and his wife, Lisa (Eva Gabor). "Lisa Bakes a Cake," in which Lisa lists Oliver in the phone book as an attorney, is about as flat and heavy as one of Lisa's infamous creations. Fast-forward to "Jealousy, English Style," in which Lisa objects to Oliver's departure for a "farm symposium," or as she calls it, "a stag party with farmers." She tries to make Oliver jealous of visiting Englishman Tony Ashley, whom Oliver has hired as a temporary farm hand (Eb, we are told, is on his honeymoon!). "Old Mail Day" also delivers some chuckles as Sam Drucker gets around to distributing all the misplaced mail in his general store. One letter to Washington from an outraged Oliver, and Sam is forced to pedal around Hooterville himself delivering the mail (to everyone except Oliver, that is). More letters to Washington only worsen the fiasco, and as the episode ends, Oliver's tar and feathering seems imminent. In "Oliver Goes Broke," Hooterville rallies around Oliver as Bedford Falls did for George Bailey when a rumor spreads that he has gone bust. V-chip alert: Lisa snuggles up to Oliver in bed and coos, "Why don't you turn off the light, and we'll talk about crops and things like that." Even more provocative is Hank Kimball's offhanded reference to Sam Drucker's blonde wig and dress! --Donald Liebenson

"oh for the love of..."
It's Green Acres...if you've watched one and liked it or hated it. Lisa Bakes A Cake is by far the best on the tape, but just sit back and enjoy the silly era gone by.

a few flaws,but still entertaininhg.
Of the four shows on this VHS cassette,the second and third shows featured,"Old Mail Day" and "Jealousy Engligh Style" are,in my opinion,the best of the tape.They are on a par with the majority of shows that gave the "Green Acres" series its screwball-like,endearingly silly brand of comedy status."Lisa Bakes a Cake,which opens the tape is reasinably funny and amusing but its ratherb unfocused direction and script keep it from really hitting tyhe bullseye of silliness that were characteristic of the series as a whole.The last episode,"Oliver goes broke"was made towards the end of the series run and the humor by this point had become sort of mechanical,forced and is certainly the wakest entry of the four.All in all,very amusing stroll down memory lane(as long as you be sure to fast forward the last episode I mentioned earlier).
