Q: Has anyone tried to use this edging for making insulating window inserts?

Used to install window air conditioner & plexiglass in opening above air conditioner in the window frame (see photos). The edging fits nicely on the window frame and the bulb of edging secures plexiglass inside window frame groove.

Q: What is the best way to cut this product?

Hi Viri,A pair of sharp industrial snips or straight edge clippers will work best to ensure the straightest cut. Make sure to feel for the groove between the internal metals clips on the trim for the cleanest cut. Good Luck,The Trim-Lok Team

Q: what is the edge fit range? is the listed edge fit dimension the maximum fit? my material falls between 1/16" and 1/8". much closer to 1/16", (.078")

This seal has a very pliable u-channel mounting groove. My application has a mounting rim that is somewhat variable like yours, though it is closer to 1/8 inch thickness. It accommodates that thickness very well. Since the specification is nominally 1/16, I assume it would fit that thickness also though the channel might need to be squeezed a bit to ensure a snug fit. This is my opinion that comes from my experience with this seal.
