Great book for creativity
I’m a big fan of SpongeBob, so getting to color his book brings me a lot of happiness. This says copyrighted 2024 so this is a re release of the old book of the same name. It was around in at least 2019, before going out of print. The pages are glossy and you can use markers. Just put a paper behind the page you color. The pages are very detailed so this is not your Kids coloring book.

Cute!
I’m happy with it and it’s well made. Many pages have small, more intricate details, but there are more simple ones too so the variety is nice.

Nostalgic
The nostalgia made me buy this book. I love all of the pages and the little quotes on the back of each page.

The Fun of a Children's Coloring Book with the Quality of an Adult Coloring book
When I first saw this book in an online group for adults who color, I was excited. I am a big fan of Stephen Hillenburg's style of animation, so the idea of coloring his characters was appealing. Plus, I was hoping it would just be a fun and carefree book, in contrast to many beautiful but very serious adult coloring books. I was looking for something that had images more like those found in children's books, but delivered in adult coloring book quality. When the book came in the mail, I wasn't disappointed. The covers are unique and attractive with gold foil accents and dozens of small Spongebob themed doodles. Unfortunately, the binding did break slightly as soon as I opened the book and pressed the pages down. I don't think I used more pressure than I would normally use on a coloring book, yet a page fell out the first day I had it, and and another has fallen out since. (I have the book for 3-4 weeks.) Please see photo of damage below. This isn't a deal breaker for me since images can be easier to color when removed from the book, but it might be a problem for some people. One pro of the construction, however, is that there are only designs on one side of each page. The other side always includes a funny quotation from the show, so that if you use some sort of coloring supply that bleeds through, it won't matter. However, the pages are sturdy and many common media won't bleed. I tested 4 types of markers (Leisure Arts Double Ended Markers, Casemate Metallic Markers, Sharpie Ultrafine Markers, and Bic Ultrafine markers; only the last two bled through and then only slightly. In total, I swatched eight media on this book (Prismacolor Premier colored pencils, Crayola colored pencils, The Fine Touch Metallic colored pencils, unnamed Ikea gel pens, Leisure Arts Double Ended Markers, Casemate Metallic Markers, Sharpie Ultrafine Markers, and Bic Ultrafine markers) and found that they all performed well on the paper. Please see the photo I included below. The markers laid down the smoothest and covered the paper the best, while the Prismacolor Premiers did the least well. As you can hopefully see from the picture, they tend to leave behind a pattern of white spots that are hard to fill. They, by no means, did poorly though. It is excellent that the paper responds well to a variety of media because the line art is also well suited to a variety of media. The book contains designs that are dizzingly detailed, which would require fineliners or ultrafine tip markers, as well as those with larger spaces that would be well suited to colored pencils, markers, or maybe crayons, if you wished. Illustrations also come in a variety of styles – ranging for intricate patterns to scenes related to specific episodes of the show– meaning that there would be something please both those who prefer objective and less objective styles of art. Also, for me, it is the product's quirky line art that makes it shine. It provides the sort of silliness that I normally associate with children's coloring books, but adds a bit of intricacy and a lot of quality. That being said, I wouldn't recommend this to younger children (under 12 or so years old), for a couple of reasons. 1) Some of the pages are very intricate and may be discouraging for children who are still developing hand eye coordination and fine motor skills. 2) Because most of the pages have many elements and would require a lot of time, younger children may not have the patience for them. However, I would definitely recommend it to Nickelodeon and Spongebob lovers. In general, its a high quality book in a market with many other high quality books. The thing that sets it apart is it's unique art and appeal to Spongebob and Nickelodeon fans. If that's something that attracts you, you'll probably enjoy this book a lot.
