‘=’ - the fourth instalment in Sheeran’s symbol album series – is Ed’s most accomplished work yet; the evolution of an artist who continues to tread new ground. A body of songs that were made over a four-year period following his seminal ‘÷’ (Divide) album era, thematically, ‘=’ finds Ed taking stock of his life and the people in it, as he explores the varying degrees of love (‘The Joker And The Queen’, ‘First Times’, ‘2step'), loss (‘Visiting Hours’), resilience (‘Can’t Stop The Rain’) and fatherhood (‘Sandman’, ‘Leave Your Life’), while also processing his reality and career (‘Tides’). Sonically, ‘=’ encapsulates Ed’s versatile musical palette, spanning signature, guitar-led tracks and world-class balladry to weightier, euphoric production moments, as first showcased on the album’s lead single ‘Bad Habits,’ released earlier this summer."=" seamlessly captures both the intimate and every day; elevating universal experiences to a higher plane as reflected by ‘Visiting Hours’ – a track that finds Ed coming to terms with the loss of his mentor and friend, Michael Gudinski, and written shortly after his passing: “I wish that heaven had visiting hours / So I can just swing by and ask your advice”. Performed for the first time at Michael’s State Memorial in March, the poignant track, which is joined by a stripped performance video, features backing vocals from Michael’s close friends, Kylie Minogue and Jimmy Barnes.Written and recorded across Suffolk, London, Sweden and LA, the album’s executive production comes from Ed Sheeran, FRED (No.6 Collaborations Project) and Johnny McDaid (Divide), with additional writing and/or production provided by Steve Mac, Joe Rubel, Amy Wadge, Foy Vance, Elvira Anderfjard, David Hodges, Andrew Watt, Lou Bell, Natalie Hemby and Ben Kweller. Sheeran’s brother, Matthew, a composer, also contributes stunning string arrangements on ‘First Times’ and ‘The Joker And The Queen’. The album artwork is a vivid collage of butterfly imagery symbolizing the albums’ thread of ‘new life’ and is backdropped by one of Ed’s own abstract paintings.

Great music. Casing is subjective, I'm not a fan, but I guess it's not supposed to be worth much? The case is just thick paper, real easy to damage if put under any stress at all. And the sides are open to slide the cd and the small notebook in and out with ease - if you hold it wrong you risk them slipping out on their own, which is why I'm not a fan. (Seriously, can't someone think to put a velcro strap or something if you design cd cases this way?)Anyway... the notebook they include has words to all the songs and i think it gives credit to what was put in to make each song in the back of it too. I do like this and the simplicity of the design on the case - some people try to complicate it too much with numbers and stuff, but I guess the notebook helped prevent that too. So, even though I think the casing could be better, 5 stars for me!

Excellent! As usual!
This is a great album!! I love, LOVE Adelle. I bought her new album also. But other than the one song they play constantly on the radio, I am really disappointed in the album as a whole. Not her best effort. Not even close. Now, I've read other reviews that aren't necessarily the most positive about Ed Sheerans Equals,=. I don't know what it is they're listening to but this album is excellent!!! I hear a grown up Ed Sheeran coming from a different perspective as far as his lyrics. The music, melodies are fantastic. I love every song on the album, beginning to the end! I really love everything Ed Sheeran does. He's grown up and has love, a wife, a child and new experiences to write and sing about. I love artists who grow in positive ways and don't just want to sing about unrequited love or bad breakups, casual sex with some stranger (or spouse) all over the kitchen counter "all night long" or politics, but can write and sing about the joy of a life filled with some happiness and new adventures and new "first times!" If you love Ed Sheeran, you will love this CD. I love this CD. It's on constantly!!

Wonderful sound! Nice Cover!
This album was for one of my grandchildren, and I will say that they really truly enjoyed it. It was very colorful, and they were very surprised to get an extra sheet inside with info! The album colors are much more beautiful and vibrant in person. Since lots of albums are coming in different colors on the album itself I would’ve loved to see this album in a vibrant color as well.
