APCUPS BE850M2, 850VA UPS Battery Backup & Surge Protector, Backup Battery Uninterruptible Power Supply with (2) USB Charging Ports, APC Back-UPS Series

I did have a scare today when it seemed to stop working (a year after purchase and constant use), but I contacted their support and they had me disconnect the battery, hold the power button to discharge anything left in the unit, then reconnect the battery. And it started working again just fine. There was no bad weather or anything. I was simply rebooting my PC when the UPS unit decided to stop working. It had a blinking green light and one continuous long beep when you tried to start the PC.It still has a 3 year warranty. I will try to remember to update this review when it finally dies.

This APC UPS replaces the same model that I had used for more than 5 years with no issues. It failed recently and a replacement battery did not fix the problem.I have 2 PC work stations and a network switch plugged into the battery outlets. The battery backup time on the old unit was always adequate to shut everything down during a power outage. I will update the review after I have used the new backup for a while.

Pros :1. Powerful, keeps PC on a good long time durning power outage. Powered Monitor, PC & network router, no problems.2. Multifunction. Two USB power ports. I use 1 for a USB LED Lamp ! :-) and the second one charges my phone & iPad.3. Upright. Fits nicely beside tables or under a desk. The upright shape makes it easier to plug in power adapters and keeps it out of the way of your feet.4. Reliable. Stopped several little brown outs from disrupting my PC. Thank you APC !5. Beeps: if power goes out & you didn't notice it... it beeps. Protecting your stuff.CONS : none. Great UPS for the price.Some Larger APC power supplies have an LED Display showing minutes remaining, but they cost a little more.With spring & summer time rain storms, APC UPS has always been a real life saver. One bad storm ZAPPED my neighbors HDTV & PC, he had to buy all new electronics !But my electronics are A.O.K. thanks to APC.NOW he bought APC too.Do the Smart thing and save your $$$ electronics from power problems.You will be very happy you did.

-- Updated December 16, 2021 ---Had a power outage last night and the UPS failed. 5 of these units and all 5 have failed.-- Updated October 1, 2019 ---I have decided to change my review to one star. As of tonight, I have had my FOURTH unit fail, all with the same symptom - the alert tone comes on solid and the unit fails to pass power. I've tried all the troubleshooting steps APC has given me in the past but nothing works. The unit simply does not function any longer, it is dead. This is the last APC UPS I will ever buy.---------------I've always used APC and they never disappoint. This unit is easy to setup and works great.March Update:This unit worked fine for a couple of months and then one day it just died. It was letting out a continuous alarm, which according to the manual means it is overloaded. I disconnected everything, unplugged it from the wall, disconnected the battery, and plugged it back in. Even with nothing on it, it failed. So I RMA'd it in November with APC and they were kind enough to send me a new unit.Today, the replacement unit did the same thing. Completely dead and unusable. Time to RMA it.

UPDATE:We e-mailed APC on the weekend and within a couple days they responded and immediately sent out a brand new replacement unit that arrived only a day later. The UPS is hooked up now and working fine without any problems. We're sending back the other unit in the same box and we're very satisfied with the support from APC. We've also changed our rating from 1 star to 4 stars.ORIGINAL:Our family was using the APC UPS 850VA (BE850M2) on our backup server for only a little more than a month. The power went out in January and when the unit switched to battery it failed and began making a constant tone and our back up server died. We followed the manual and reconnected the battery and tried to charge the unit but it still doesn't work. We get a rapidly flashing green light followed by a constant tone. We attempted to return the unit on 01-24-2019. Amazon clearly showed on it's website we had until 02-14-2019 to return the item. Because the APC UPS 850VA (BE850M2) was defective the Amazon page said we had to talk to a representative before they would allow it to be returned. Amazon customer service was currently closed.We waited until 02-05-2019 knowing we would have to make a lengthy call to Amazon and troubleshoot the APC UPS 850VA (BE850M2) with customer service before they would grant the return. This is when we discovered the return date had been changed to 01-31-2019 by Amazon! We are absolutely livid about this. Only a couple months ago we bought two APC UPS 1500VA (BR1500MS) units and one APC 850VA (BE850M2) unit despite all the warnings and now we're stuck with a defective APC UPS 850VA (BE850M2) that should have at least been returnable for a NEW replacement. We do not want a refurbished unit or a repair. We would rather spend the extra money for a NEW unit, possibly an upgraded model. We're seriously considering buying from another brand besides APC now.
