The terror begins when the crew of a spaceship investigates a transmission from a desolate planet, and discovers a life form that is perfectly evolved to annihilate mankind. One by one, each crew member is slain until only Ripley is left, leading to an explosive conclusion that sets the stage for its stunning sequel, "Aliens."

Alien: The Director's Cut is a Better Cut Than The Original
Alien: The Director's Cut is a better version of the original movie. I love all of the Alien movies mostly because of the story and the special effects. Any movie that presents a director's version of the film is usually better than the original version and this one is not an exeption. I'm not going to reveal anything about the pilot exept to say that I highly recommend ths movie.

One of the most influencial films of all time, birth of a great franchise!
First and foremost, if you are not a fan of science fiction or horror in any sense you will more than likely not enjoy this film. Apart from that, if you have never had the opportunity to view 'Alien' it is strongly recommended that you do. Even as a standalone film it can withstand the test of time. Numerous firsts were witnessed as a result of this work and any movie buff of the genre or director will argue this is one of the greatest feats in cinematic history. The directors cut does feature several elements not in the theatrical cut and never before seen in the remaining franchise (which is another discussion altogether) but nevertheless it is a masterpiece that will live on throughout all of human existence....................

Alien: The Director's Cut
Alien: The Director's Cut... there are monsters in the dark. This horror classic of 1979, directed by Ridley Scott, remains one of the most influential horror classic films of all time. This is one to measure all the others. Brilliant story, Great actors. An amazing beginning of an unforgettable franchise.

24k pure science-fiction gold!
Alien remains one of my top three favorite science-fiction films, along with Blade Runner, and Dune (David Lynch version). The depth of the writing, the visual and directorial artistry, the performance of the actors, the intense sound, and beautiful music are all first class. And for a movie that was made in the 70's to still be more interesting and entertaining than movies being made today says quite a lot about it. I own a copy of this film and have watched it dozens of times along with other films that I love because I find all aspects of fine film-making fascinating, and I have yet to be bored with this film. Alien is absolute science-fiction perfection which all sci-fi fans should watch at LEAST once.

WRONG MOVIE AMAZON!
Even though this says this is the "directors cut" with a running time of 3 hours, it is NOT correct and is the regular movie that's about an 1 & 1/2 hours, which I have seen before. I was looking forward to seeing the extended version! :/ I am still giving this movie the 5 stars though because it's an awesome classic.

Alien: Director Cut/ Scott's Mangnum Opus
This is the masterpiece sci/fi movie all others should be measured against. The slight adds and deletes in the directors cut are helpful especially the ensemble scene when the crew hear the alien broadcast for the first time. Couple a great script, an alien that still is being copied, and a fantastic cast which all combines for a great movie. This movie is still worth seeing and feels fresh after its 1979 release. Ridley Scott is a genius and was deserved of an Oscar for this movie. I agree with Scott that the original hardly needed much help.

In space...no one can hear you scream.
The beginning of all the Xenomorph films. Ridley Scott gives the viewer the feeling of utter isolation and hopelessness as an vicious amoral creature straight out of your nightmares stalks and wreaks havoc to a simple yet determined cargo crew in the deepest darkest corners of space. Nowhere to go, and no help to turn to, its up to the crew to eradicate the creature as tension and suspense builds, lurking in every corner. The music is spectacular, creating the desolate and bleak atmosphere. H.R. Giger's creature and his nightmarish vision is dark yet has beauty in its dark corners.

Classic.
I just watched this for the first time today (I'm a chicken, okay?). For a 40 year old film, this has held up pretty well, in my opinion. Some of the sound and effects top what you see in a theater today. Definitely worthy of being called a classic.
