The scale should be able to connect to the 2.4Ghz wireless network. Take note that during setup of the scale's wireless network connection you'll need to use a cell phone that is able to connect to the same 2.4Ghz wireless network that you want the scale to use.

Q: how will the scale know when i am on it vs my husband - i don't want to share data lol?

It has different profile settings, which you control from the app. The scale will know it’s you, only if you interact with the app. There’s a “start” button, then you step on. No information is saved in the scale itself. I definitely agree with you on wanting it private. Lol
