California customer here. I've used the UNIDEN R4 on several extended road trips, each over 400 miles, and it has consistently delivered outstanding performance. The detector provides impressive range and accurate alerts, giving me plenty of time to adjust speed when needed. While it's impossible to know for certain how many tickets it may have saved me from, there were definitely multiple situations where it proved invaluable. For anyone who drives long distances or at highway speeds frequently, this device is well worth the investment.

I tried several detectors, even much more expensive ones. The R4 is my choice. It’s small and good looking, upgraded tech has great range and filters out the garbage signals automatically or manually and is especially good blocking aggravating trash signals coming for other cars. And when it does get a legit threat it’s on it a mile away.Other detectors have arrows, and that would be nice, but those can give off confusing signals. With the R4 range you soon get where you can tell by the signal pattern if the threat is in front, rear, or to the sides, (and the threat sounds are just cool.)This little baby is solid, huge memory for storing mutes, will itself recognize and store a false threat location after a few passes, will pretty much be quiet as a mouse until approaching a real threat. At that point the direction is not as relevant as slowing down anyway. I live in a section that uses Ks and Kas, didn’t know this till R4 educated me, so I can’t turn off the K band, but my R4 will not sound a signal from another car like I found that others do. I don’t speed much but I will get liberal with the speed limit sometimes, and that has cost me hundreds in the past With the R4 you really feel like you have and R2D2 on your side.

The R4 came highly recommended from several radar detector forums if you don't need anything fancy or unnecessary bills and whistles.The uniden update software actually has the ability to be installed on a Mac or PC 👍 and uniden offers regular updates free of charge.There R4 has extremely good range, and once you learn the frequencies in your area you'll know what to primarily listen for. At 85, I was getting initial alerts and after 2 to 3 minutes I'd eventually come across the trooper sitting in the median or driving towards me. I did discover that it will pick up any radar within your immediate vicinity so if you pass a cross street it will get the radar that is perpendicular to you.I do drive through several towns with speed cameras and every time it is alerted me.If you need extra arrows bells and whistles get the r7 or R8. If you just want a highly effective unit get the r4 and then you have the ability to Bluetooth pair to your cell phone Highway app.Lastly there is the ability to utilize your computer to go through and modify all the settings. It's pretty easy but there are probably 100 plus settings that you can manipulate via a laptop.

I purchased this on reviews. I replaced my cobra unit.I did the software update, tweeked the settings. Ka, Lazer burst and X . My area has Ka 5G repeaters ( i can't filter this out ) that's my problem not yours.This little unit is crazy good. I've used it over a month before writing this.The long range is outstanding, I daily take an off ramp that goes up then curves to the left and drops down, this little guy picks up radar signals while pointing away from the source 2 minutes before they come into view. I have 6 regular spots for CHP hangouts on the way home. I now were they are with this R4.

The sound quality is amazing plus it has different volumes depending on how you feel like setting it the build quality is an amazing size it’s perfect and works amazing I tried it out the moment I got it setup and already notified me which I’m very happy and In love with this radar detector if your on a budget and want an amazing radar get this one it’s the best

Lots of false alerts in my area, but after driving by a few times it learns to "Auto Mute".Detection distance is crazy. On a cross country drive I get alerts 2mi out. The first time I took it out on a road trip, it alerted so early I thought they were false alerts. Sure enough every single time there was either a cop ahead or a radar sign.Worth it. Driving without it now makes me feel "naked" hah

Incredible detector. Detects from very far away. I live in New Jersey so it's completely legal and I have nothing to worry about there.I love the mute memory function because there are a lot of school zone speed signs around my house. It's also very helpful when driving around shopping centers.I have had it for almost 3 months now and it has saved me 2 or 3 times already. I definitely have a heavy foot.I hardwired mine to my 12V "cigarette lighter" fuse and it works like a charm.I mounted it on my windshield above my dashcam on the passenger side of my rearview mirror. It's set up perfectly so that it appears right next to the mirror so it's easy for me to look at. My passengers also tell me it doesn't block their view at all since it's so compact.
