Too Uncomfortable For Birdies to Build a Nest On
The first two pictures are from 4 years ago and the last one shows the spike deterrents. In 2021 a pair of Robins built a nest on top of one of the lights that are on either side of the door on the front porch of my house. (See Picture #1)I had my doubts whether or not it would survive because of going in and out the door with the dog for walks and, of course, the frequent visit from the Amazon drivers. They constructed a nice looking nest, laid and hatched 3 eggs, but in a short time it was apparent that these were not the best nest builders. In the first picture you can see one of the chicks in pin feathers and one of the parents. Cozy looking, but the nest was actually tilting off to the side. I had to wire it to the fixture, but in no time it was apparent that this wasn't the fix it needed. It started to fall apart, baby chicks fell out, hitting the cement hard from 6' up. The babies were scooped up and put back in the nest, but the one chick was considerably larger than the other two and I suspect it was kicking the smaller ones out. Eventually the smaller ones disappeared. The nest fell off the light; I replaced it. Finally, I just got a silk fern in a pot on a raised stool to hold the nest (with my dog's cone of shame to keep the squirrels away) and the parents fed the surviving chick until it fledged. Not wanting to repeat this scenario, when evidence of nesting showed up this year, the material was removed. And the birds replaced it. I tried to put sticky tape on top of the fixture, but the birds removed it and replaced it with more nesting material. So I found these spikes and put them where the nesting materiel was being placed. The next day, there was no activity! The day after that, there was a string of foliage in the spikes, but they gave up and went to the light on the other side of the door! Now that one is also wearing a crown. These sure seem like they are going to be the fix I needed. But, these Robins are apparently very smart and determined! These were easy to put together and adhere to the light fixtures, wrapping around the part in back of the light that attaches to the house. What's nice about them is that while they are effective from the get go, they aren't obtrusive looking from the sidewalk and street.

So Far So Good
Purchased these to help with doves and finches (I think they're finches), but particularly the doves, that ignore the many available trees and prefer to build their nests around my leaders, soffits, and ledges. Live and let live, but these birds are messy and I refuse to allow a nest on a ledge over my front door, which was just starting when these spikes were delivered. I applied these stakes on the ledge with some Gorilla indoor/outdoor two-sided tape. I then applied the stakes to other popular nesting areas around my property - and fingers crossed - this seems to have done the trick. Two straight days with no birds. I have previously tried plastic spikes and the dummy owl - neither was effective long-term, I am cautiously optimistic that these will be more effective. Use some caution assembling these spikes - between the spikes and the base - it's easy to assemble but if you don't pay attention or accidentally grab them the wrong way they can cut you.

So far so good! - They figured out a way!
Update: The crazy little birds figured out a way! Worked for a while but now they are back at it.So far so good! We have only had them a couple of days. My husband said a bird sat on the edge and looked at it and walked through it but it hasn't been back. He said for that one, he needs to move the spikes a little closer together. We bought the 5 feet option and had 1 strip left. The zip ties wouldn't work for us with our porch posts but they do have little holes in the strips. My husband just put a couple of small nails into the wood to hold them in place. He does not feel like the nails are damaging to our posts at all. So far it's working!

Worth it for the cost
Gonna give them a 4+ only because you have to push 20 spikes through each strip yourself to assemble. The strip is stainless the spikes are not which isn't a big deal to me. You will need a 4" long bit to drive whatever screw you use or you will end up with the drill pushing all the spikes around. Also note the spikes aren't sharp they are cut flush so the only point is from the diameter of the wire, so hopefully they annoy the critters but dont hurt them. The mounting strip is a little over a inch wide with about 3" width on the spike spread. Heads up the mounting bases are thin stamped steel so the sides are fairly sharp while assembling.

For dogs too!
Actually didn't use these as bird spikes. We used them under a wrought iron fence. There was too big of a gap between the bottom of the fence and the ground and we didn't want to put a solid object across the bottom but needed a physical barrier that the dog wouldn't go thru to get under the fence. Two weeks in and so far, so good. We'll see.

Easy to assemble and place
At first I was a bit hesitant in buying this product because I did not want to buy anything that could potentially harm any animal and the idea of "spikes" seemed a bit extreme. But after reading reviews and being fed up with my bird problem, I decided to buy it. One day after putting it up, it solved my problem! Very grateful that this worked. I highly recommend.

No birds!
They're working great. Easy to install. You do have to put them together which is a little bit fiddly and time-consuming but not that big a deal considering they do the job. Also not super noticeable if that matters. You can see them, obviously, but they don't stick out and draw your attention.

Our birds built a nest right inside these.
This item is meant to deter birds and they laid a nest on top of it. The product is good quality so I feel bad taking away a star but wanted to make sure people knew it wasn’t bird proof. I sprayed undiluted ammonia up in the rafters of our gazebo and that had the best results.
