Quality diamond plated rod
I sharpen weekly with a whetstone and strop but this rod gets me a working edge quickly and wasn’t expensive. It’s important to note that these sharpen your blade by removing material, not just aligning the edge like a honing steel. Hence why it’s diamond coated. It definitely has a bit more bite on the first use than subsequent uses but that’s very typical of diamond coatings. I use this in a professional setting and it stores in my knife bag rod nicely. Time will tell how long it lasts. Comes with instructions for use but I imagine if you’re buying one you’d already be using honing steel so maybe the information may not be of much value. It’s lighter than a traditional rod.

it is not meant to sharpen a dull knife. it keeps a sharp knife sharp.
DIAMOND sharpening steel is different than other sharpening steels that i've had. it hones a SHARP blade well. the man who sharpens my knife recommended it to prolong the sharpness before the knives need to be worked on. i'm happy w/ the purchase.

Course diamond grit is now smooth with a few uses.
Yes it sharpens. But after a few uses the grit is smoothed out. This item will not last long.
