When you need more precision than a knife
I’m reasonably good with a chef’s knife. There are times, such as any gratin potatoes or julienne carrots, where more precision (or greater safety) are required. I have used this mandolin quite a few times since receiving it. It has performed nearly flawlessly. There are several features which in my opinion make it stand out among mandolins.Safety. Mandolins must be used carefully. This unit has a locked setting where the blades are tucked away to minimize accidental cutting. The blade is removable should you think that important. The holder for slicing the food is spring-loaded with an indicator on top giving you an idea of how much remains to be sliced. It is also equipped with 3 pins which penetrate the food to lessen slippage during use. With those in mind I use and recommend a cut-resistant glove.Utility. Thickness settings are achieved with a knob on one side. There is an indicator on the side with positive stops at each thickness. Moving beyond the thickest slicing setting there two additional choices for julienne slicing. The removable blade is also reversible which permits making rippled slices. The foldable foot is rubber-coated and well constructed making for good stability while using. Do remember though that those slices have to go somewhere so be prepared to move them from beneath the slicer frequently and keep your countertop reasonably dry.If you are in the market for a mandolin I can recommend you seriously consider this one.

Play the Mandoline
I've been using a smaller OXO Madoline for years and decided to upgrade. This one is a monster (gentle one). It is sturdy, solid, has multiple settings allowing me to go really thin in my cuts. I first saw it in person at a fancy home goods store with initials WS and it was almost twice the price.

I’m really impressed with the OXO SteeL Chef's Mandoline Slicer 2.0! It’s incredibly easy and safe to use, which is a big plus if you’ve ever been intimidated by mandolines in the past. The design feels solid and well-made—definitely a quality product. What I love most is the versatility. It makes a wide variety of cuts with precision, which has seriously elevated my meal prep game. From thin slices to crinkle cuts, it handles everything effortlessly. Cleanup is a breeze too—just a quick rinse and it’s good to go. Precision Slicing Powerhouse (with the Bulk to Prove It!)
Why Purchased: This purchase was made to improve efficiency in making homemade slaw and potato chips, my knife skills were insufficient. The OXO mandoline was chosen for its potential to deliver consistent and effortless results.Pros:Versatile Blade Arsenal: The mandoline includes a two-sided blade for straight slices and crinkle cuts, and an additional set of sharp edges for julienne and French fries, offering various slicing possibilities.Stability and Safety Focus: The wide, non-slip feet keep the mandoline stable on the countertop, and the food holder provides a secure grip, enhancing safety during use (definitely use the secure grip, the blades are EXTREMELY sharp!). There is ample space beneath the mandoline for a plate or tray to catch sliced food.Adjustable Thickness with Ease: The thickness adjustment dial is intuitive and easy to read, allowing precise control over slice thickness without the need to swap out blades.Cons:Storage: Despite folding relatively flat, the mandoline remains bulky (which is likely why it is so sturdy), which can be inconvenient in kitchens with limited space.Cleaning Can Be Fiddly: Removing food particles from around the blades, especially for julienne and French fries, and cleaning the crevices can require extra effort and care.Price Point Consideration: The OXO Chef's Mandoline Slicer 2.0 is priced higher than simpler mandolines, which may be justified by its quality and versatility for dedicated home cooks but might be excessive for occasional use.Final Summary & Recommendation (4 Stars):The OXO Good Grips Chef's Mandoline Slicer 2.0 is a well-constructed and versatile tool that streamlines food preparation by providing uniform cuts. Its blades, stable design, and easy thickness adjustments enhance its functionality in the kitchen. However, the storage challenges and cleaning requirements prevent it from achieving a perfect score. For those who frequently prepare dishes needing precise and consistent slicing and are willing to invest in a high-quality tool, the OXO mandoline is a suitable choice.

If I could give 0 stars - I would
I was in dire need of a new mandoline - I had one for a very long time and it worked great. But after years of use, the safety holder cracked and the blade was "finally" losing its sharpness. So I did a bunch of research on mandolines - and I took the recommendation of a popular food show that reviews kitchen tools of all types and makes their recommendations. I have always had good luck with this method - air fryer, toaster, etc. This is the first time I have been disappointed! Based on other great reviews - not sure if I just got a bad one or what - BUT... This thing is absolutelyt awful! First off the safety handle - the spring load is so tight that even a pretty substantial potato gets literally shot out of the thing! Doesn't hold any vegetable at all! Very difficult to "slide" - and I use that term loosely - up and down the shaft - really takes brute force. And as far as the slicing goes - well if you just want "slices" it seems to work just fine - but for the julienne settings - for french fries or julienne veg - its' totally worthless. It "cuts" the french fries - BUT - not all the way - they come out in one piece and you have to separate them! I should have returned it after my first use - but I thought surely that spring load would ease upon further use - and as far as the slicing and dicing goes - being new - maybe it was just a learning curve - but no - after a couple months of use - I have decided this garbage and and that's where it's going. I wouldn't even donate it.
