TomTom Via 1625m gps device
I've had a number of GPS units in my cars and appreciated their benefits. My last unit was an older and smaller TomTom and purchased this 1625M (6") model last June (2020). I liked the increased size and mounted it on the far left top of my dashboard where it was out of the way but easy to monitor and still keep an eye on the road. Unfortunately, someone also decided they wanted it last month and broke into my car and stole it along the the mounting and charging accessories that I stored in a nylon bag under the drivers' seat as well as other personal belongings. My homeowners insurance wouldn't reimburse for the TomTom as the documentation and receipt were kept with the GPS so I'm hoping to replace it later this year.

Does the job
I tested this briefly and it seems very accurate. Will be driving from San Francisco with several stops along the way to Los Angeles and hope it will guide me correctly. UPDATE: This GPS worked wonderfully on my trip in California. Just bought a new KONA and skipped the factory GPS...mounted this one on a beanbag mount and it fits perfectly behind the screen in the middle.....so easy to use and we really love it.

read instructions for quicker setup and use
Unit is great if you follow setup instructions. I tried and figured most out but needed to refer to manual. Good uint. Does it's job fine. Updates are quarterly...

Great Piece of Equipment
I was told to just use the GPS on my phone and save the money. I decided to purchase the Tom Tom anyway. I wanted to always have the GPS visible even when I was on the phone. Driving thru the mountains we always had GPS even when we had no service on our phones.

Good value, website not very user friendly and maps not always accurate
As with many reviews on Amazon, one has to read very carefully and in the case of this, note the comments from the manufacturer. There are so many reviewers who obviously have not read the directions or have reviewed the wrong product model. For this GPS someone incorrectly said that it cost $130 to access the map updates. That is simply not true. Another reviewer mentioned the glare of the display. That can be adjusted. With the negative reviews, one needs to take into account if it is just one person or if multiple reviewers are having the same problem. That being said, the instruction manual is almost worthless; there is little information and the website is difficult to navigate. Once you find the information you are looking for it’s okay. The map updates only took about ten minutes. As noted by other reviewers, the maps are not always accurate. Maybe this is the GPS that told truckers to drive over historic foot bridges! On a recent trip to Thunder Bay, Ontario Tom Tom could not locate several addresses on a main route—not at all a recent development. The maps are supposed to cover North America and Thunder Bay is a fair sized city only about 40 miles from the U.S. border. Garmin is more accurate but, for value, this Tom Tom is good. Once you locate a place you probably need to put it in your favorites so you can find it again.

easy to use
Took a trip from Texas to Wisconsin and it got me to my destination with no problems. Large screen, easy to use, overall good product.

Hate it. Wrong and Hard To Use. No Grocery Shopping Directions? Why Not????
Writing this review as I am still trembling with rage. Hate this thing. Screen is larger than my Garmin. Why so hard to use? Does TomTom even use this product? Tried to use this to find a Walmart in both Canada and Utah and ended up in a lonely wilderness BOTH times. What is wrong with this device...and yes I updated. It is just bad bad bad. Try to do something as simple as marking your current location for a return trip....good luck. If you buy a TomTom I strongly recommend another GPS if you want to get home. Absolutely awful interface, terrible POI database and it seems to be designed to get you lost. Good luck....these things should ship with a big bag of breadcrumbs so you have at least a chance of getting home.

I had the 1605 model before and the bracket which holds the unit to the windshield broke off so I had to order a new one and thankfully this one has lots of memory so I will not have any problem uploading my map of the USA.

We have had TomToms for years. The last one we had was a "lemon." This one finds the satellites quickly and gives clear and concise directions. We like the larger screen. We know that things change, the (process) for entering the desired destination has changed; it is a small thing but takes getting used to. One unknown is what the life expectancy is; the last one "died" pretty young but was "sick" all along. We should have returned it. We prefer TomTom over Garmin models.

This unit was shipped with a defective cable. Could not connect with My Drive Connect until I performed some trouble shooting and used a cable from an older device. Tom Tom quickly shipped a replacement cable. Be aware that this is a newer designed device that eliminated the options such as changing the car symbol, etc (so you are always looking at a dumb arrow on the display). Many of the previously customizable options are no longer available. I wish I had known this information before because I would have bought a different device. The device works well, but is quite different from previous versions. Takes some getting used to. Overall a good device.

Replaced a old, no longer supported XL unit with this. Was a returned unit supposedly with some cosmetic flaws discounted by almost 50%. I have yet to find a flaw other than a small tear on the instruction sheet - looks and operates as new in original packaging! Some differences compared to the XL but no show stoppers, mostly relate to how a function is invoked. However I cannot determine anywhere when TomTom will stop providing map updates - the reason the XL was replaced. Their 'lifetime map updates' is tied to their decision when the 'support life' of the product ends, not when you end its life!!
