THR30II Wireless Desktop Guitar Amp, Black (THR30II WL BL)

After an extensive search for the perfect compact home amplifier, I've finally found it in the Yamaha THR30II. I've been using a Fender Champ 25 SE but wanted something smaller. As a jazz guitarist who has experimented with numerous amps... Henriksen, Milkman, ZT, DV Mark, vintage Polytone, Vox Clubman 60, Positive Grid Spark... I can confidently say the THR30II stands out from the crowd. I initially dismissed the THR30II, assuming it would produce a thin, insubstantial sound unworthy of a "real" amp. However, my preconceptions were completely shattered upon trying it. 𝗦𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱 𝗤𝘂𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗩𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆 The THR30II delivers an impressive audio experience with rich, room-filling sound. It produces warm, clear, clean tones for jazz, and surprisingly robust bass response. The "Classic" amp settings to my ear are the best and legit give tube-amp tones that I found particularly appealing. One of the amp's standout features is its ability to dial in precise tones. It's highly responsive to adjustments, making it easy to achieve pretty much any tone. The built-in compression is effective, and I've found my sweet spot with a modified Classic > Bass amp preset, tweaking the EQ to my liking (rolling back the bass a bit, turning down the treble, and upping the mids + some compression). 𝗨𝘀𝗲𝗿-𝗙𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗱𝗹𝘆 𝗙𝗲𝗮𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲𝘀 The THR30II has intuitive controls for quick tone adjustments. Its companion app, contrary to some negative reviews, has worked flawlessly for me and unlocks additional potential in the amp. The combination of hardware controls and software options strikes a nice balance, allowing for deep customization without overwhelming the user. 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗮𝗿𝗶𝘀𝗼𝗻 𝘁𝗼 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗦𝗽𝗮𝗿𝗸 𝟰𝟬 While the Spark 40 is a capable and feature-rich alternative, the THR30II just plain sounds better. Its sound is more authentic, better representing the guitar's natural tone. It strikes a balance between versatility and simplicity. It offers enough options to dial in your desired tone without overwhelming you with choices. This approach encourages spending more time actually playing and less time tweaking settings or scrolling through endless presets. The THR30II also aligns with my belief that most of a guitarist's tone comes from their fingers. With its plethora of features and endless presets, I feel the Spark masks your instrument's character, while the THR30II amplifies your guitar without getting in the way of your playing. It doesn't feel like a mask or a crutch but rather an extension of your instrument. This philosophy extends to my thoughts on the upcoming Spark 2. While having even MORE features can be exciting, it's crucial to remember that great music has been made on much simpler equipment. The risk of getting lost in a sea of options is real, and it can detract from the essential practice of simply playing and improving your craft. So for those seeking a compact, high-quality amplifier for home use, the Yamaha THR30II is an outstanding choice. I'm so happy with it. It offers an impressive combination of authentic tone, versatility, and user-friendly features that make it perfect for practice, recording, or intimate performances. After trying numerous options, I can finally say my search for the ideal at-home amp is over.

This is the perfect little home practice amp, especially if you get the wireless bug for your guitar. I normally jam in the living room, but if someone is watching TV when I get the urge to rock out, I just grab my amp & guitar and go somewhere else. No cords to mess with and need to have a power outlet available. Using the phone app you get more control of some tone shaping aspects of the amp that you can't do with the knobs, so that is helpful. And, I love that you can Bluetooth sound from your phone to the amp. I've always been a rhythm player, but since I got this amp I've been having lots of fun practicing guitar solos by sending YouTube backing tracks to the amp and playing along with them. It is a bit expensive, considering that for the same money, you could buy a big, powerfull amp that you could play gigs with, but as convenient as this little amp is, I dont have a single regret about spending the money to buy it, and if I were ever so inclined, the line-outs on it could be used to plug into something big enough for a gig setting.

Liked: sound is very good, about 80% fidelity of the Axe FX 3. Didn’t like: wrong model and didn’t match the box’s model number, but it wasn’t worth the hassle to return it. Wasn’t opened.

This little amplifier is amazingly good and has great tone for its size and price. The convenience of not having to plug the guitar in (when coupled with the wireless transmitter) is fantastic. i use this amp almost exclusively now for practice at home.

I was on the fence on this amp, but boy is it killer. For me the sound quaility, wireless option and recording options make it just perfect for me at home. Love being able to get very satisfying tones at low volumes. Effects are more than good enough. There are way more sounds in here than I initially thought. Have not recorded with it yet, but I am sure it will work for my modest needs. I don't normally leave many reviews, but this little amp has really inspired me to play more, and hopefully my playing will improve as a result!

It’s an amazing amp, all the reviews are right. The downside though? The apps. Whether it’s on PC, Mac or iPhone, it’s a nightmare to operate. Connection keeps failing, which is extremely frustrating for a machine that costs $500. Please do better Yamaha

Note: Amazon is listing this version of the Yamaha THR30II Wireless as an Acoustic Amp. It is NOT. The black model is the Electric guitar version. Amazon / Yamaha should correct this. The Acoustic version is a brown colored model. Fact: Yamaha has annihilated the competition with the THR30II Wireless Desktop Amp. The guitar sound this thing produces is remarkable and has far surpassed my expectations of what an amp this size is capable of producing. If you don’t require a larger amp for concert performance, Yamaha’s latest desktop may be all you need. But even if you wanted to use it on stage, simply connect the THR30II Wireless to a house system or another amp using the 1/4 inch stereo outs on the back of the unit. As a longtime pro guitar player I admit I’m getting tired of heavy amps and a suitcase of cords and pedals. Perhaps that’s just one of the reasons I find the 30 watt desktop THR30II Wireless so refreshing. Yamaha has produced a powerful desktop system with a realistic tube tone that sounds so good, it makes me want to play longer, and even at my age, that continues to make me a better player. There are 8 variations.. clean, crunch, lead, hi gain, special, bass, acoustic and flat. Each with 3 variations.. modern, boutique and classic. The acoustic and flat settings are perfect for acoustics and the bass, middle and treble controls actually work, providing excellent EQ control. Whether playing or recording at home, in a studio, or busking on the corner, the THR30II Wireless is incredible. With the built in rechargeable battery you’ll be able to play for 4-5 hours. The craftsmanship is impressive. Built like a tank and impeccably manufactured. Even the headphone amp, where most manufacturers tend to cheap out, is one of the best I’ve heard. It’s as good as the THR30’s custom twin speakers. The THR30II has an aux-in as well. Though with Bluetooth providing the capability of playing along with music from your smart device, you may never use the aux-in function. Of course the THR30II Wireless Desktop Amp can also be used as an everyday Bluetooth speaker. Yamaha has been making a version of this desktop amp for well over a decade, but only now with wireless and Bluetooth (and slightly larger speakers on the THR30II), has it really come of age. I’m glad I waited too, as the stunning new black model wasn’t available until recently. Then there’s that warm tube-like orange glow behind the amp grill. Nice! (Especially noticeable on the black model.) The built in effects include all the pro processing Yamaha is known for, and if you connect your smart device and use the free downloadable Yamaha THR Remote app, you’ll have a dozen additional settings like multiple cabs, reverbs, delays, a noise gate and adjustable compression. All THR30II settings, including a separate Bluetooth audio channel, are controllable via the THR Remote app. But you ask, how does it sound? To me, the true test of any amp is how it sounds at lower to mid volume. With stage amps you need to drive the wattage to obtain the sound you may be looking for. With the THR30II, Yamaha’s engineers and sound techs obviously spent major time coming up with a way to deliver that warm tube sound at living room level. It’s one of the THR30II’s top features. Dial in a setting and save it to one of 5 available presets. ( I saved 4 for electric and 1 for acoustic.) Plug in a Line 6 Relay G10 and play wirelessly from 50’ away. The guitar jack automatically charges the Relay G10 when plugged in. Or use any $50 set of wireless TX and RX plugs. Of all the equipment I’ve purchased over the last 30 years, the THR30II Wireless desktop amp (Black) is one of the most amazing pieces of gear I’ve owned. It’s built like a Rolls Royce, is stunning in appearance, is 100% portable, and the quality of sound it produces defies its diminutive size. There is also a Tap Tempo feature and built in tuner. I can’t stop playing my guitar through it, finding the sound it produces extremely addictive. So there you have it. I liked it but I went with another brand.. The controls are a bit funny as soon as I started changing them after a preset everything was messed up.

Great sounding little home practise amp, USB interface, gigable through a powered speaker or direct to PA, deeper dive into all options via app...what more could you ask for really. Bought the wireless transmitter as well and couldn't be happier. Plugged my Taylor in and also sounded amazing for small patio gigs. I have a THR5 too that I love but the this version is the best all round featured of them all.

I heard many good things about this amp. So, I tried it out. It was nice when I first got it but the more I used it the more the sound really started to annoy me. It just sounded so muffled. t's nothing close to the clarity that my Boss Katana Mk2 had. Also, the recording the computer through USB sounds terrible. I never had these issues with the Katana. I'm going back to that amp. It never let me down. It's also much cheaper.
