Starrett Tool and Instrument Oil - Extra-Fine Lubricant - Ideal for Measuring Tools, Precision Instruments and Light Machinery - 4 fl. oz - 1620

This is my go-to oil for precision mechanisms. As I understand, it is used by Starrett to coat its precision tools and instruments in the factory. Even in decades-old unused Starrett tools with this original oil coating I have never seen either rust or gummed-up residue. And everything lubricated with this oil in my shop stays lubricated for a good long time. It does creep away slowly, but primarily through use and through absorption into the metal. Volatility seems minimal.I use this oil in all situations that require a film of oil on the inside of a mechanism, such as micrometer threads. For other purposes, I do use two other standard lubricants: Starrett M1 spray for protecting raw steel surfaces against rust and WD-40 to drive out moisture.But for creating a long-lasting film, this oil is the best I have used. I always keep an unopened bottle in reserve so I never run out.

Perfect to use for Gage Blocks, precision hand tools made of stainless steel or similar and even some bolts.

If you use machinist's tools you know the value of a fine oil for lubricating moving parts and protection of tool surfaces from rust or corrosion. Starrett makes the finest tools, and this oil keeps them working and looking new. Good in the kitchen too. A drop on a scissor joint, or a drawer slide, an oven door hinge, or a mixer motor shaft keeps things nice.

Thete is really nothing not to like it just works on fine measurement tools keeps the clean and rust free.

I had a few hand tools that had started to show a little rust.Having used this product before I ordered this just to wipe down my tools and within a couple of days I could no longer see any rust. Mind you this was not heavy just enough I could see it.I have found the best use of this product is in maintaining tool.I have not found it very useful as a penetrating oil.I just buy something made specifically for that purpose and all is well.I highly recommend this for tool maintenance.

This appears to be the same, high-quality, Sterrett Instrument Oil that I have used for years. The "new" plastic bottles are slightly larger in capacity than the original metal oil containers. The new plastic bottles come wrapped in a shrink-wrap plastic film. However, there is no real seal material between the dispenser cap and the main body of the plastic bottle. Both bottles received were leaking under the shrink-wrap, saturating the entire exterior of both bottles. A few minutes of clean-up was required to clean up the mess - once the shrink-wrap film was removed.

This is used on a lot of Starrett instruments as a lubricant and rust preventative coating. Around the house it works for door hinges in home and car, tools, firearms, and as a general purpose lubricant in small machinery.
