Ideal reference phones for mixing demos. Not for mastering - great for the price though.
After much research, I came up with these as my main studio reference headphones. Having had to downsize my studio due to an injury, I can no longer use my nearfield monitors as much as before and have to rely on headphones much more than before. If you want a set of headphones that sound awesome to sit and listen to your music collection through, then these may disappoint. But, if you want to be able to hear every nuance of your mix, knowing that, whatever speakers your music is played on, it will sound as it should be, these are exactly what you need. Many headphones are heavy on the bass, a bit "muddy" in the mid range and high on the top end - just like pressing the "loudness" button on your hi-fi. Lovely to listen to but useless for mixing. These faithfully reproduce what you put into them, without colouration or distortion - exactly what you need to produce a professional result. They have non of that lack of distinction in the mid range found in so many others in this price range. There very comfortable for prolonged sessions and EXTREMELY light. If I had a criticism, it would be that, being open backed, ambient noise can filter through somewhat - but it's a small price to pay for all the other benefits. UPDATE. Having now used these for some time, I've hit a snag - and had to upgrade. I stand by most of the above BUT mastering "fuller" orchestral mixes, it gets very "muddy" in the lower ranges. I can only describe it as "anything above the cellos sounds great". Once you bring in the lower ranges, the whole mix goes "muddy" and I have to switch to near field monitors. These are great for a basic engineering mix but, for mastering -they're simply not up to it. I think before damning these, for the price, they're still amazing. Fine for demos - not so much for mastering.

Amazing headphones!
I'm assuming that if you're looking at buying these then you're probably not a fan of Beats-style phones or anything that colours the sound too much. These are incredibly neutral. The songs you play on them sound like the original mixes that the recording engineers probably listened to on these headphones, being as they are a staple of every studio in the world. They're crisp, don't have ridiculous bass levels and the sound is open and airy. They also sit very softly on the head, not being tight or overly restrictive and easy to use for hours on end without any discomfort, even for a glasses wearer like myself. If you want to hear your music the way the producers/bands intended you to hear it then these are a must. Dirt-cheap as well! Replaceable ear pads and a decently thick cable complete the near-perfect package. WARNING: These are semi-open backed headphones, so they're home-only numbers, unless you want everybody around you to hear what you're listening to. They're loud, but not obnoxiously so, to everyone else around you.

Cheap studio cans, fairly neutral though lack bass
These are pretty famous and well known so have been around for years, more than 30 years! I think I spotted a pair in the NWA film circa 1985, though those ones were probably made in Austria unlike these. They do feel a bit cheap but they have a detachable cord, are fairly comfortable too. The sound is mostly flat and while fairly accurate for studio use they have a total lack of bass. There is some bass there down to around perhaps 50Hz but not much below that. So not a fun headphones but if you need something for monitoring or tracking or home studio and can find them for 40 or less they might be worth a listen. Bearing in mind the highly detailed review that is the top review I don't think these are anywhere near as good as the Austrian originals and i would not pay £58 for them. I think I paid £45 around 6 years ago but had just had my Beyerdynamic DT 880 Pros stolen and was desperate for something accurate and cheap. I should have read more reviews. For £40-45 they are ok, but don't pay more than that as there are better options for £58 - 80 like the Sony MDR 7506 which are leagues ahead of these and have good accurate bass reproduction but not boom like bass of those terrible beats cans.

Bought in 2018 and still going strong!
The best headphones I've ever bought. They're not my first set of over ears but they were my most expensive buy (never really had the money to buy a decent set) Great headset and comfortable for large heads like mine :D I've listened to everything from gaming to Pink Floyd, Kendrick Lamar. It all just sounds really good. I suffer naturally from Tinnitus, so I don't really like wearing headphones, but these I love. It's been dropped a few times and on occasion just left in a draw with other items and it's a robust set. 100% would recommend this exact version if you're looking for a first set. I'm only now after 6 years thinking of buying an upgrade but still use these in my bedroom.

I have a blackstar tube guitar amp and the AKG K240 pairs perfectly for practice session daily. Best part is that is is semi open back so the sound is crisp and well balanced without any processing most other headphones on the market do. The guitar Mids and high notes sound amazing. I also use the K240 to listen to music with my Ipod. The K240 headphone is super light and Ear buds are so comfortable that you hardly feel it on the head. Another great bonus is the long 3m cable and it easily pops out of the main head unit as due to its xrl connection
