Great Value
These get five stars for value. Arrive very well packed with nothing but the speakers. Finish is excellent. A beautiful matt colour that wasn't particularly Walnut and could happily pass as dark oak. Very nice indeed. Commendably clean bass even if there isn't much of it. No bass woolliness here! Sound is a little muffled in the upper midrange, and lacks bass punch. Overall they are little bright sounding. They don't need much power to get them dancing. I didn't find myself winding the volume up and up, which you do with the best hifi, but you still want them to go loud. They are a lot of fun. I personally found them best at tracks that were simple. They definitely have their moments, but the more cluttered the track the more the speakers struggled to resolve detail. Some tracks sounded exceptional, others just muddled. And they also didn't really respond to quality recordings. I think some people would prefer a more engaging, energetic sound. Seems like I am kicking them to death here, but what on earth can you expect for this money? They are absolutely fantastic for less than the price of an average food shop. They are a great budget option and do punch above their price. I think you would have to pay double to get a noticeable improvement. They do need running in. After about 12 hours, I found them to shine just that bit brighter. Music sounded more fun and the occasional bass detail just caught you with a wow! For the generally music listener, bass-heads need not apply. For a TV or budget hifi these are winners. Highly recommended. If you are on a budget, give them a listen.

Excellent value great sounding well built speakers.
First off the delivery was first rate. I ordered these on the Sunday before a bank holiday and they were delivered on Tuesday. Excellently packaged to minimise risk of damage. Out of the box they are things of beauty, very well made and solid. Soundwise I was initially dissapointed they didn't seem to be much improvement over the Bose 203s they replaced, however you have to give them time to warm up and once they do the sound is fabulous. Very deep rich bass and lots of detail in the highs. I mainly listen to vinyl via a Technics 1200 MK2 I also have a Technics CD player both going into a Denon PMA 520AE Amp. The vinyl sounds great revealing detail and sounding just how I hoped, it's particularly good on Jazz Vinyl, Art Blakey's Just Coolin' really came alive. The great revelation though is when it comes to CDs, I had just about given up playing them because they just sounded so cold and well digital !, these speakers have changed that for the first time in years my CDs actually sound good, again they have depth and a richness of sound that was just missing. For the price I don't imagine these can be beaten, I don't know how they do it although I suspect the move of production to China might have had something to do with it, but don't let that put you off. These are excellent bookshelf speakers, the price can't be beaten unless you get therm for free. I'd have no hesitation in recommending these.

Great value for money and correct size. Very impressed.
I bought these speakers as extention speakers for my kitchen / dinner room. I have not bought Wharfdale speakers for many many years but having read the positive comments on here I thought I would give them a go. I bought the Walnut finish version and I have to say the build quality and finish is superb well over what I was expecting. The bi wired connections on the back are really chunky and solid and will take high quality thick speaker cables with ease. Out of the box with flat direct feed they sound as good as you can expect a small / medium bookshelf speaker to sound. Nice crisp highs and clear middles the bass is a little light as you would expect from a bookshelf. However, as a test I drove them with my Technics graphic equalizer and after fiddling around I got some quite amazing deep, solid and punchy bass..... very impressive. They are quite heavy for book shelf speakers so make sure your wall brackets are sound. In short great build quality and superb finish, good sound and for £129.00 great value for money. If I could give 6 stars I would.

Sound clear and detailed but a little over-bright
Pleasing appearance, solidly built and well finished. I have slight reservations concerning the overall sound ballance. Sound is generally detailed quite 'forward'. On my system I sometimes have to adjust the treble downwards to avoid brightness turning into slight harshness. This problem is particularly noticeable for large-scale choral music, where there is a tendency for the sound to 'glare' for the full choir at full throated volumes. I have found that cutting around 4kHz with a graphic equaliser helps to limit this. I wondered whether some of this was my hearing, so I placed a pair of old (but quite good) SONY bookcase speakers next to the Wharfdales to allow an 'A-B' comparison. I also played the same music through my top-end system which has large floor-standing speaker cabinets ('ols school'). These tests confirmed my assessment that the Wharfdales can be a little over-bright and even a little harsh with large choral works. Speaker choice is always a matter of taste. For me, these speakers are definitely good enough to keep. Although (of course) not perfect, they are nice pieces and acceptable value for money. Additional... Just listened to a DECCA LP of Glazunov's and Prokofiev's violin concertos. The Wharfdales performed beautifully. Great clarity. Well done. An extra star.

Simply amazing for the price
These speakers are nothing short of amazing. And I haven't been paid to say that. I was looking to replace my very old speakers but on a budget. After reading all the great reviews I decided there must be something to these speakers. Wharfedale have always been a great British brand for many decades. I have never personally owned a pair but friends of mine have sworn by them over the years. So how do they perform? Outstanding sound from a budget speaker. The treble is clear and crisp with a punchy bass. I'm still running them in so I expect the sound to only improve. If you are looking for a new pair of speakers and you are on a budget, look no further. I still can't believe the price of these. I would highly recommend these. You won't regret it.

Punch way above their price point!
Punch way above their price point! I've had a lot of vintage & new speakers over the course of 30+ years & am very very pleased with these. Wide dynamic range with detailed highs & good punchy bass along with a beautiful aesthetic. Highly recommend!

Decent quality, good build quality, typical Wharfedale product
So I recently bought these speakers and am in the process of running them in. Got a Denon amp setup with cables already run in. Happy with the buy at current. They do require a stand to get them at the right height. Really nice wood finish and the front grills are delicate from my personal opinion. Love the shape, bass is clean for the price. Tweeters are good quality but once fully run in, will be able to update the review with much more accurate info. Overall, works well with the Wharfedale S150 sub but I've heard the sub tends to break after 6 months so will see if it's just how users are setting up or if it's build quality.
