Great Machine - smooth, quiet and light weight.
took a bit of time to get used to the machine and its controls. The button hole lever was a bit of a problem and kept getting nudged, but once we pushed it UP out of the way and let the machine go through the button hole cycle we had the machine running in basic mode. Superb starting! The machine just picks up straight away and begins sewing with the lightest touch on the pedal. This makes control so easy and would be ideal for a beginner. It is light weight so easy to put away and bring out as and when you need it rather than the tendency to leave the heavier brick like machines in place even though they are getting in the way. It is quiet too. Very "enjoyable" machine to use and would encourage you to do more.

No manual not impressed
Annoyed sums me up .Lovely machine but absolutely no manual to show you how to use it .DVD is obviously meant for a computer as it doesn’t work on any of my players .Ive given it one star purely because I’m going to have to sit and work it out for myself what everything does .Its 10 years since I’ve used a sewing machine .No doubt it’ll be ok once I’ve sussed it out but until then not happy

a quet machine to use, not to heavy and runs smoothly
very good sewing machine, i brought this to replace my Husqvarna machine that was 35 years old and the gears had gone. it is easy to use and good clear instruction booklet with the machine. delivery was excellent. a good basic range of accessories came with it.

Easy peas to operate sewing machine
Very easy to thread and love the the automatic needle threader. The accessories eg. Zipper foot, bobbins and other bits are stored in a box on the machine under the bobbin area. Does very good stitching unlike my old singer which did gappy stitches. Second purchase for me as my original I had for 9 yrs got very noisy. Easy to operate and there is a video on YouTube which shows you how to use machine which is easier than reading instruction booklet. The pedal is a bit light weight compared to older sewing machines i had.

Sturdy and versatile
The Husqvarna-viking E20 has a good solid build and many useful features. The tension is automatic but you can adjust it if needed, and you can vary the stitch width and length. If you are using thick material or are trying to sew a bulky seam the two step pressure foot is very handy. Stitches include various over-lock and decorative options. The accessories include a darning foot which was really hard to fit. I would recommend the generic low shank darning foot I bought from Amazon which was easy to put on and accommodated my large hand-embroidery hoop easily. If I have a quibble it is with the instruction booklet. The instructions for accessing the decorative stitches were not clear and it was only by trial and error that I worked out how to do it. If you want to do the decorative stitches, your stitch length must be between 0 and 1 and make sure you have the satin foot on. Also, how to use the built-in threader is not explained. I got the impression this feature was added before the manual was updated as this feature is not mentioned in the product description. I had to turn to the Internet for help. However, I am not complaining about an extra!Altogether very good value for money and I was pleased with the service from GUR.I have received this link from a Mr McCarthy [...]. Thank you for the link. I have watched the videos and they are very useful. They clear up all the questions raised above.

They don't make them like they used to!
I had an old Riccar sewing machine bought thirty years or so ago. There was nothing much wrong with it except the feed plate sheared and I couldn't find the replacement part anywhere - I have kept the machine in the hope that I can find the part. In searching for a new sewing machine I read various reviews both on Amazon and various sewing forums and the E20 was frequently mentioned in favourable terms. It is obviously a while since I last bought a machine and things have changed - my old machine was a hefty piece of metal and the build quality is far superior to this Husqvarna machine. I can't get used to the plastic foot plate lever which feels so flimsy that I expect it to break every time I use it! I don't think I'll ever get used to plastic bobbins either. The foot control is also very flimsy compared to what I am used to and it is more difficult to control speed because it is so light that you can find your foot pressing just a bit harder which transmits through to a racing pace. I guess I should have spent a bit more although I suspect I would have had to spend considerably more to get close to the build quality I am used to. I don't do as much sewing as I used to so shelling out for a machine which would be similar in quality to my old one wouldn't make sense. In terms of capabilities there is little to choose between my old machine and the new one (mine was an expensive machine in its day with features that were innovative and unusual back then but are commonplace now). There is a decent range of stitches although this isn't a machine for serious embroidery work. I don't like that the free arm is placed towards the back with just the front piece sliding off. On my old machine the free arm bit was in the middle with detachable boxes front and rear and this was much easier to work with. On the E20 I have found that the top of the machine gets slightly in the way because the free arm is positioned so far back. It is rather annoying that you have to remove the accessory box to fit the bobbin. The automatic threader is a new feature and the instruction manual doesn't mention it. I had to search on line to find out how it worked but I can't be bothered with it - I find it easier to thread the needle in the conventional manner even though my sight isn't what it was! The machine comes with the usual set of alternative feet (zip, darning, button holing, etc.) and some spare bobbins. Surprisingly it doesn't come with a hard case or proper cover - just a light dustcover that is no use for carrying the machine about but would be OK if you have a dedicated sewing room where the machine stays on a table. The machine is easy to use and set up, and performance is OK. If you regularly sew heavier weight fabrics you will need something better. I tried hemming some denim jeans - it was fine with the basic turned over hem but couldn't cope with the hem over double stitched seams with the extra layers of fabric. It isn't great on tweed/wool fabrics either.I am not as enthusiastic as most purchasers probably because I am harking back to days long gone. I don't think this machine will last thirty years! This wouldn't be bad as a first sewing machine or for someone looking for a machine for light use. If you are new to sewing this machine offers good functionality e.g. useful things like one step button holing.
