Assur
This item is an accurate replica of a detail found on many Assyrian wall reliefs. The paint job is not. Design Toscano uses black and gold on many of their ancient replicas but I doubt it's correct. Never the less I like the piece.

Great decoration. Great gift.
Bought this for a gift. It was well wrapped in the boxes and decent quality. Fairly thick and heavy. Great for the price! Good wall piece.

High Quality Wall Decoration
Toscano is a famous designer and manufacturer of decorative statues and ornaments for the home and the garden. Some of their products are crafted in stone and some, like this one, in resin. Most have classical design themes, like this one of an Assyrian god. While others are more modern, like dogs and fairies. They have a design to fit just about any setting. My wall decoration is fit for indoor use. The detail is very good and the material looks metallic, aged bronze to be specific. Of course, it is not made of metal, but of resin. The material is heavier than it looks because it is solid. However, that adds to the feel of quality. This is a good quality wall decoration that will last your lifetime. It will not fade or crack in the home environment.Obviously, this piece looks like it came from antiquity and makes a great conversation piece. Like something found in ancient times. The walls of my home are all white and this really stands out. Perhaps it would look better against a more classic wall material, like stone for example. However, I like the way it looks over my fireplace. Decoration is a matter of taste and you should choose items that you find pleasing. Design Toscano has a wide range of designs to choose from. Even if an antique-looking wall plaque of an Assyrian god is not to your taste, they will surely have something that will fit with your aesthetic taste.I prefer to decorate with plants and statues rather than paintings and pictures. I have outgrown posters back during my college days. Perhaps you are the same way. I highly recommend that you browse through Design Toscano's offerings. I think you will find something that will suite your taste and your home.Highly recommended.

Cool wall plaque
This is a cool wall plaque of Ashur, an Assyrian god that's probably less well known than gods of other pantheons. The style of this plaque is a little rougher, as compared to the more polished Sekmet statue also by Design Toscano.

Beautiful and Exotic Wall Piece
I am normally hesitant on such decor because it looks too much like a tourist piece. This is sufficiently exotic being Assyrian that it will fit well in an Explorer/Curiosity Decor like I have. The piece is well made and looks great on my wall!

Design Toscano: Ashur The Assyrian.
A quick Google search revealed that this wall plaque is of the old Assyrian god of earth, air and sun and is based on a wall relief from the city of Nimrud, some 30 miles from Mosul in Iraq; I`ve been unable to discover if it is one of the reliefs destroyed by ISIL.The plaque is, at 12" in length a little on the small side, and is clearly cast from a mould but is otherwise a fairly accurate copy. It has been hand-painted with raised details picked out mainly in an antique gold and with some copper colouring on the armour of the figure set against a black background. There are two eye-plates on the back and wall-screws are included. It is really only suitable for indoor display.I quite like it; it isn't particularly commanding, and it`s quite an expensive item for what it is, but knowing what it represents and that it is part of an ancient cultural heritage that evil forces wish to destroy is reason enough for me to hang it in my favourite place and admire it at my leisure.

Ornamental and contemplative.
As always with Toscana the moulding is immaculate. Tightly packed in polystyrene so there is no risk of damage. You will get significant colour variation because of the hand painting, but I have never had a Toscano piece that is less than good. There are plates for mounting on the underside. It is heavy for its size.Ashur is depicted as a Bull Sun God, bestowing might onto the Assyrian people. The Sun is seen as both life giver and destroyer. It is easier to understand bull worship when you consider that the extinct auroch bulls grew as tall as any man, with impressive long, forward pointing horns. This symbol is a totem; a representation of tribal identity and ownership. You can imagine it guarding an entrance or being caried into battle like a Roman Eagle.Ashur has no modern cultural relevance. The Assyrians were Christianised under Roman rule. They resisted conversion to Islam, but were subjected to genocide after the fall of the Ottoman empire, causing them to scatter away from their homeland. In isolation Ashur and the ancient Assyrians are not particularly interesting. However they are interesting as an example of generic themes and influences. This piece is not imposing, so it could just be mounted as a curiosity. It is small enough to be kept as an example, for comparitive religion and symbolism. There is inspiration to be had for writers and designers, as well as historians.

Militaristic looking wall sculpture
Not sure I like this reproduction Ashur the Assyrian wall sculpture: it's very militaristic looking with the wings and the Ashur figure is quite dark and (dare I say it) chubby. It's of some kind of ceramic type material, not too heavy, but not light either. It comes with a helpful two slots at the back to make it easy to suspend on a couple of nails/screws or wall hangers. I realised that it came with screws, so had to fish the packaging out of the recycle bag to retrieve them. The wings effect is striking and not bad.

Great
This is quite expensive for what it is. However, it seems well made and is suitable for indoor and outdoor use. It is rather heavy and measures only 30cm across. Comes with wall hanging slots in the back and a packet of screws.
