StarCraft: Broodwar
I cannot really say much else than what has already been said.Despite the age of this game, it still plays extremely well and is also played very often in gaming tournaments (worldwide, although the best players tend to reside in South Korea - where they actually have a TV channel dedicated to this game) to this day as a result of this.Anyway, I have been playing this game on Vista 64bit perfectly fine (without changing any settings) providing that I launch the game through the installer on the disk - so that's not an issue either (at least not for me). This is my first review so it is probably all over the place, so I'll try to summerise pros and cons.Pros:- Active community (after many, many years!)- Very rewarding when you win (this game is hard!)- Very well balanced between the 3 factions (Terran/Humans, Zerg, Protoss)- The units actually have personality (you'll see what I mean when you play)- Fast-paced and strategy-heavy (even minor things like ground-height advantages come into play) so it doesn't revolve around slinging huge armies at eachother like other RTS games (I'm looking at you; Command and Conquer!)- An overall enjoyable experienceCons:- The computer is hard (and it cheats as it can see the entire map instantly)and will likely destroy newer players.- The graphics are dated, although not at all terrible.- You can only select 12 units at a time, which is annoying despite how much it makes strategy/micromanagement more important. In conclusion I say that the pros dominate the cons and that you should definitely buy this game (or at least watch some tournament videos on the internet - which inspired me to play (and buy) this.Sorry for the messy first review, I'll try better next time!P.S. The Broodwar game actually adds onto the StarCraft program. You have the option of what version you want to play within each of the main menu's modes. Surprisngly, Broodwar (the expansion content) is the one that championship tournaments use - so I'd suggest sticking to that for multiplayer.

Worth my son's enjoyment
Starquest, my teenage son ordered it through me and he played for a good while, enough said. He got 'my' monies worth out of it.

The best strategy game on the PC ever.
This is possibly the best game ever on the PC. Although now dated it is still a wonderful game to play (I still play it on my Windows 7 PC). It has three balanced races, a wonderful storyline and great gaming experience. Personally I find the original game (and its expansion) much better than the sequel, the original has a better story, characters were better and a it had a much better atmosphere that the long awaited sequals failed to match. This box set includes the original game and the superb expansion, which follows the story of three different races and dozens of characters over the events covered in the game. Although the age of the game will deter most gamers, if you don't mind retro games and have a PC that can run it (it will still run on my PC, although I needed a fix from the blizzard website to fix the colour problem with windows 7) and enjoy a good strategy game give this a try, you won't be disappointed.

Good game but deep flaws
I bought this game because I wanted to create and play my own scenarios, however, the game does let you spend hours creating, then does NOT give the option to play it. So a complete waste of time. There was no instructions or advice in the case so I don't know if it's faulty or I'm missing something. Good play in the basic game though.

True Golden Oldie
Sure it's graphically dated. Sure it's a pain to get it to run properly on operating systems that Microsoft has chosen to forget about. Sure it's unsophisticated compared to today's RTSs. All that said, though (and most essentially), Starcraft is still a lot of fun to play, in campaign mode and on LAN (just don't patch it too far if you're still using Vista or earlier).

The usual nightmare
This is a very good game for its time and I now have 3 copies in my futile attempt to indulge in a bit of nostalgia. I have now given up after 3 hours of live chat with Blizzard, 3 different computers, every OS compatibility possible and every different graphics setting. I have tried 3 CD ROMS and also the downloaded versions. I am 56 years old and wonder how old I will be before I learn that computers, software and everything that is associated with them are junk. I can buy a brand new German synthesizer and plug it into a Japanese drum machine form 1985 and they will talk to each other like old friends. The Doc Marten shoes I bought twenty years ago still fit on my feet. Why (rhetorical question, by the way) can't the computer companies of the world get compatibility sorted in a similar fashion?
