Best pliers based multi tool on the market . If pliers are not your priority then a swiss army knife style might be a better option . If pliers are essential , then these are the best because the handle shape is the most comfortable . There is also no chance of pinching the cheek of your finger .One downside is the scissors . These cut well but don't open very wide .The pouch is a very high quality leather , and although many people don't like the velcro fastening , I think its fine and does the job.

I have been looking for a new multi-tool for a while. I had a nice Gerber for many years, but snapped the tip off the blade trying to lever something! I looked at the cheap end of the market but couldnt find exactly the right combination of tools. Also the issue of not being able to lock the blades in place ruled out many tools.I finally settled on this Victorinox one. Its got all of the tools I generally need. The scissors are especially good. It wasnt cheap, but I know it will be good quality, unlike some other manufacturers who have very mixed reviews.Its also very pleasant to use, the pliers are great and, unlike the Gerber, I havent crushed my little finger whilst holding the handles to manipulate the pliers. The tools lock into place and there is a small release lever that must be pulled back to release them. This is even better than just a detent that must be overcome to fold the blade/tool in. It does mean two hands to use, but thats not a concern for me.You can use the tools without opening the handles which is logical and is still very comfortable to use in that position.Its also just the right size for my hands which are on the large side. It looks smart too with 'Victorinox' and the shield log inscribed on each side of the handle.I would say that this is an excellent tool to keep with you at all times. The leather case is smart and discreet when hung on your belt. I expect it to last me for years and years!

Victorinox is most widely known for the extensive array of swiss army knives which they have manufactured to an excellent standard of quality over the years. This is one of Victorinox's two offerings in the 'multitool' market dominated by Leatherman and Gerber. The other is the Victorinox 30327L Swiss Tool X in Leather Pouch. Both of these tools are available in slightly different configurations of blade styles and tools.This is a very slim tool which oozes class and packs a lot into a small profile. All tools are of excellent construction and the screwdriver bits especially show that experience that Victorinox has in the swiss army knife market. All tools are outside accessible which is a definite advantage. They all also have good nail grooves on them to make them easily extractable.The only thing this is really missing is a one-handed notch or stud on the blade: it can be difficult to find quickly as it blends into other tools.

Hold it and feel the quality. Too nice to use?

Updated review after some use and upgraded from 3 to 4 stars. The steel is not highly polished, like surgical instruments. The one I received is rather dull. The wire cutters on the pliers' jaws have such little area that can cut, making them almost useless. All the tools lock, which is great and it is comfortable to hold. It is also quite compact, making it easy to travel with. After using this for some time now I am getting to like it more. The tools do work well and some work better than Leatherman Wave and Surge tools. The Wave and Surge have more uses and are more versatile. However, with the ratchet set, the Swiss tool becomes better and even more versatile. Like it more, the more I use it.

I’ve just got back from a two week trip and used the Spirit X alot.I’ve killed fish and chopped-up fish, pulled out nails, cut rope with the scissors, done up Phillips screws, undone flat screws of various sizes, cut down small trees etc etc and there’s not a mark on it and it’s as good as new. I felt quite proud pulling it out when needed and it’s reassuring knowing it’s in my pocket and available when i need it.

Good multitool from the makers of the Swiss army knife you must bare in mind though this is made from the same steel stock as the pocket knives and from my experience is a little on the soft side if you are going to work it hard !The value was good and the delivery fast from AmazonI would recommend this tool as the quality is high only down side if you send it to Victorinox for repair you had best get a spare as their warranty work takes about three to four months ? Leatherman takes about a week ! So just something to consider! Great tool though .
