Draper 83978 Hand Axe, 600g

Arrived promptly, well packaged and pre sharpened which is more than can be said for some.... Relatively lightweight and very well balanced but still feels sturdy enough and well made. I dont expect the head to be loosening on this any time soon which is more that I can say for this axe's predecessor! Ive primarily used this for chopping smaller logs into kindling for my firepit and its very adept for this task. Comfortable to use for long periods and nice and easy to use accurately. The shaft is Hickory and could be alittle slippy if used with bare hands. I wear rubberised gloves so this is not an issue for me but maybe something to be aware of. Very pleased with my purchase. This was a little more expensive than one or two of the other brands but i fully expect this to continue to serve me well for a good few years to come.

Quality item for the money.Superbly balanced and weighted.Ive seen axes for twice this price that are inferior.Superb for kindling although I felt it needed sharpening before first use but thats probably me being fussy.Also great deterrent if the wife gets bossy with me!! LOL.

A well made little axe. Only issue is that it's as blunt as a sheep's back leg. Not a problem for me as I'm adept at sharpening tools but I suspect that some would expect a new axe to be pre-sharpened.

The axe I received is sharp: it has a scandi edge, rather than a convex edge. Many axes have convex edges and aren't as sharp, but the edge lasts longer due to having more steel (mass) near the edge. The handle is through the head. Nice to use for kindling or small logs, but the head is too small for larger logs, and the handle too short, and not what it's made for; it's about 8cm wide. Comes with an edge protector. Overall a nice sharp, well-balanced axe.

This was bought as a gift. It was well received but the recipient was puzzled by the warning stamped on the side of "Do not strike". Does this mean that the item may not work as intended being a bit too fragile? An interesting conundrum we both agreed.

Excellent. Sharp. Anatomical comfortable. Light weight but well balance. Easy to manipulate for fine work. A confident strike for heavier strikes. Fits well into a smaller hand - a larger hand would have no difficulties in using this blade and compact handle. Recommend. Thank you

Seems like a good product. Arrives blunt as a rock, so make sure you can put an edge on it before you buy.

I have used this for camping to split firewood for kindling and it works well. The edge is not razer sharp so you can put it in a backpack, but the axe head has a good taper for splitting. The handle has a nice carve. I removed the wood lacquer and put on an oil finish.
