The Path of Sri Ramana

Best comprehensive as well as introductory book on the teachings of Sri Ramana. Sri Sadhu Om draws predominantly from the original writings of Sri Ramana as well as Guru Vacaka Kovai, and arranges the teachings systematically. One learns the nuts and bolts of the practice of self-investigation: Chapters 1 to 4 explain the 'why', chapters 5 to 7 explain what it is not, and finally chapter 8 explains in detail what the practice truly entails. The description of the practice of self-investigation in chapter 8 is the best I have seen anywhere. What used to be called 'Part 2' of the 'The Path of Sri Ramana' is now included in this combined edition as 'Supplement'. No one has discussed karma as Sadhu Om does in the 3rd chapter of 'Supplement', titled 'Karma'. The 9 appendices that follow the 'Supplement' contains many practical information on the practice of self-investigation and supporting aids. For example, one can learn how to incorporate the practice of self-investigation in one's daily routine in the Appendix 'Sadhana and Work'. The 30-page glossary that was added in the June 2025 update is a major plus! This book is a must read for any sincere seeker of self-knowledge.

This text is superb. I would not recommend it broadly, but if you are looking at this, you are likely the intended audience. The instructions for how to practice self-inquiry are so logical and mercifully clear. The chapters on Bhakti and Karma exposed and then filled gaps in my understanding that I was previously blind to. It’s easy to get caught up in reading endlessly, but this may be the only book necessary. I will revisit it any time I start to forget that. Truly, this is one text that brings it all together.

Answered many of the remaining questions I had regarding self-enquiry and the path shown by Bhagavan. Very insightful and instructive. Chock full of wisdom for divine surrender. The book leaves no doubt that these are the words of a sincere seeker who has discovered the truth.

I like this book because it answered questions I had about the self inquiry practice and clearly states what the practice is not: e.g. It's not mental repetition of who am I and it's not looking for a mental answer either, it's a means to redirect attention to being the Self.

For anyone who wants to understand the legacy of Maharshi's teaching, this book is a must-have. Sadhu Om states upfront that he is offering, at least in part, a corrective to interpretations presented by others. Whenever an author tells you they intend to correct the errors of others, it's worth watching out for a sectarian interpretation. Indeed, Om at times argues that remarks of Maharshi's that go against his view were either poorly translated from the Tamil, or recorded later from memory, or were Maharshi's explanation for less advanced people (he has the more advanced interpretation), etc. The book is clearly driven by a strong sense of guru infallibility, so there's no real critical discussion of anything (except when he's dismissing opposing interpretations). But the book is also full of keen insights that make it worthwhile. Om is a direct student and his perspective is very valuable in understanding Maharshi's teaching, especially from the last few years of his life, The book is nicely edited throughout and the translation reads smoothly.

The Path to Sri Ramana is a book that clearly articulates the teachings of Sri Ramana Maharshi in its purest form. It is beautifully, detailed and perfect for beginners and mature seekers alike. The book has more than 60 pages of untranslated material and is must have for all sincere seekers of the truth.

I have done a significant amount of spiritual reading during my life but this book I consider one of the best ever. It contains all that we need to become realized. I cannot commend it more highly. Robert Dalgleish
