Review: A solid gold Thumbs Up! - This is another fine addition to the Chew library. Both writer and reader are now well versed in the lore of Chew and so all the characters, tricks, techniques and themes you love are there. The art is great as always and although the characters can be seen as quite impressionistic you do get real emotion from their faces. One of the great touches is the background detail. Posters, notices, graffiti, all contain appropriate gags. There are even some characters from TV shows you might recognise. Once again the lettering is the star with even more neat little touches and innovations. You have the longest ever speech bubble string that fills an entire page, yet is effortlessly executed and easy to read. The stories here are more fragmented than previous volumes but the overall plot keeps marching on in the background. With so many likable characters this looks set to be the way forward. The creators are becoming bolder and more confident in both artistic and narrative style. Reminding a reader they are reading a story by addressing them directly is a very bold move, and used sparingly, as it is here and in the last volume, is a very powerful way of getting our attention. There is a great laugh out loud moment and a brilliant surprise meaning that although Chew is a comfortable and friendly read it is still just as exciting. A solid gold Thumbs Up! A tasty treat, yet again
CHEW is possibly one of the greatest comic series to be published in the last 10 years and this volume is another example of how good this series can be. If I had to make one criticism , it's that at 5 issue the story arcs don't feel long enough, however they do benefit from repeat reading. Fun, quirky and leaves a great taste in your mouth.

Chew Volume 4 Flambe
Don't get me wrong, this is one of the best comic series on the market at the moment, wickedly funny and superb artwork and I know there is a bigger picture to the whole narrative but the first 3 volumes all had a very satisfying stand alone story, where as this volume just kept giving glimpses of possible things to come with 1 or 2 chapter stories that didn't make for a very cohesive read. Still highly enjoyable but not the 5 star read like the first 3 TPBs.

Brilliant!
Everything about the Chew series is excellent - the humorous yet macabre storylines, the fleshed out and believable alternate world it is set in, the characters, the art, the writing... I could go on, but I think you get the idea. The only reason I didn't rate this as a five star item is because of the length - I find all of the issues quite small, with only five chapters (instead of the conventional six) per volume. That isn't to say that those chapters are bad, quite the contrary, it just leaves you wanting more and now that I am up to date with the comic, I know there will be a fairly long wait until the next issue. However the fact that it does leave you wanting more is a sign that it is a good read and the series is light-hearted enough to re-read several times anyway. As an individual story this volume takes an extra-terrestrial turn which could twist into an even sillier, but never over the top, plot line in the coming volumes. If you haven't read the first volumes, buy them now. If you have, buy this one now!

Ive been following Chew since book 1 came out some years ago. Ive been hooked and eagerly waiting for the next sets to come in. It's great characters with a story-line that I can ease into. The kind of humor in the Chew series, is very palatable. If you like somewhat dark and corky humor, this series is a good fix for you!

I think Chew just keeps getting better. We get Chu and Colby looking into weird fiery letters in the sky while also investigating their usual bizarre cases. We get to see more of Chu's dysfunctional family as well as more of Savoy's activities and some other ongoing plot points. As always Chew has a great story thats allot of fun to read. Great characters, humor and action. Do yourself a favor and read Chew.

The crazy world of CHEW continues in this fourth volume of the highly acclaimed series. Very enjoyable, recommended for fans of Quentin Tarantino movies and other anything-goes type of fiction. Nothing else like it on the shelves!

With stunning art and great visuals, as always, volume four has us on a slow burn. It's clear that with volume four, Layman and Guillory assume we've come along for the long game. The story tension and mystery of the alien writing grows in volume four with answers yet to come. I look forward to continuing on.
