N1O1 Lozenge

I would have to say I feel better. I would summarize my joints feel less stiff. Pleasant taste, not sweet, so easy to take. But I will say, I only take one, vs two.

A little expensive, but it is actually helping at least as far as I can tell. I'm revising this review with some evidence that it is working for me: Firstly, I'm a 62-year-old male in relatively decent shape. I work out in my home gym 1hr+ each week day and 1/2 hr. on weekends. I very rarely miss a workout. I track myself on an Apple watch. I have maintained this pattern for about 5 years now. Before that I was 50lbs overweight and did not work out for quite a few years and obviously wasn't careful about what I ate. Okay, for Christmas I received a bottle of this product. I had my blood pressure taken at a Dr. appt. after using the first bottle. It was 102/60 which I was told is excellent. I've always had good blood pressure, but nothing like this. Secondly, for my 1/2-hour workout on Saturdays and Sundays, I run, in place, in my office/ gym. I do not have treadmill, so my metrics are me against me. I have typically 'run' about 3 - 3.5 miles in 30 minutes and burned about 400 - 430 calories in that time. After using this product for a month (and continuing to use it) I have seen significant improvement. I just finished a 'run' and ran 4.5 miles burning 598 calories. The only reason I didn't go farther and burn more calories is because I have 62-year-old bones and joints and I could tell I was going to injure myself if I exerted myself more. It was not due to a lack of energy. One more thing to note that I believe could be impacting my performance and the gains I'm seeing from using this product is that I have taken Vitamin K2 and Nattokinase for quite a while. It is my understanding that both of these supplement's help keep the arteries and veins clear. Also, in 2018 I went off all 'added' sugar except for 1 cheat day a week. I don't know, but I suspect that both of these things may have improved the efficacy of these lozenges. Oh, finally, as per Dr. Bryan's recommendations, I do not use a mouth wash and use a non-fluoride toothpaste. Good health all!

These tablets consist of two ingredients (plus neutral filling): sodium nitrite and magnesium ascorbate. Sodium nitrite, NaNO2, also known as E250, is commonly used as food preservative in cured meats (ham, bacon, sausages, deli meats). It is known to be a health risk because in the stomach, or during high-heat cooking, it can react with amines to form nitrosamines, many of which are carcinogenic. It is completely banned in Canada, Norway, and Sweden, and restricted in Europe to limits between 55 and 105 mg/kg of meat. In the USA, FDA allows up to 120 to 200 mg/kg of meat products. Moreover, here in USA, it is required to also include sodium ascorbate (vitamin C) to reduce the likelihood of reaction with the formation of nitrosamines. Magnesium ascorbate is a buffered vitamin C because it has almost neutral pH when dissolved in water. It is used in herbal supplements and for all practical purposes reduces risk of formation of nitrosamines just the same way as sodium ascorbate would. It also brings magnesium, a valuable dietary supplement, but in this case amount of Mg is too low to be of much value. Hence, the content of this dietary supplement is pretty much the good old meat preservative. MEAT PRESERVATIVE. One lozenge contains 220 mg of N1O1 proprietary blend. The label shows 164 mg of vitamin C (from magnesium ascorbate) and 12.8 mg magnesium (from magnesium ascorbate), hence we have 176.8 mg of Mg(C6H7O6)2, and this leaves us with 43.2 mg of sodium nitrite. I bought it because I read the book by Nathan Bryan. His idea is to bring to the market an easy to digest nitrite which can be taken by the mouth to be converted to NO in the body. While I very much appreciate his insights, these lozenges did not work for me. I had burning sensation in my mouth and was drooling saliva for over 24 hours after a single tablet. Maybe I am super sensitive… but these are typical symptoms of chemical burn with sodium nitride (and not with vitamin C, as description says, which would not cause salivation). Now, lets do simple math - 43 mg of sodium nitride in a single lozenge is a maximum amount of preservative allowed in half a pound to a pound of deli meat or sausages in the U.S., or close to maximum amount allowed in two pounds of processed mean in Europe. Wow! Regarding the effect… My blood pressure decreased by 12 mm Hg for about 1-2 hours after taking it. But freshly squeezed beet root juice decreased it by 12 mm for 3-4 hours… so no major advantage there…. The last but not the least, why it should not be just swallowed? This is because formation of carcinogenic nitrosamines is more likely in acidic stomach than in the mouth with almost neutral pH, so it is helpful to have initial reaction between ascorbic acid and sodium nitrite in water (saliva) in the mouth. I cannot explain why it is not recommended to just dissolve this in water and drink it. So, what we get here, are lozenges of meat preservative, restricted in maximum concentration or banned worldwide, served in large dozes, a tablet a day is like a pound of processed meat a day. By the way… Food grade sodium nitrite costs about $1.20 - $1.30 per kg, whereas food grade magnesium ascorbate goes for up to $30 per kg. Doing easy math, cost of food preservative (which is what these tablets are) in 60 tablets is 32 cents. Sold for $60. Just wow! I am throwing this bottle away. Thank you, Dr. Bryan, but no. Not for me. Not food preservative in large doses sold as dietary supplement.
