Los Angeles-based composer Laufey was raised in Reykjavik and Washington D.C and had yearly visits to Beijing. Her violinist mother helped teach her cello and piano and early doors she obsessed about the music of Ella Fitzgerald. All of this informs this cinematic debut LP which lacks the input of her father who worked down the pit and enjoyed a pint of mild.
