CAVEAT EMPTOR - AGAIN!!!
A very misleading item listing made me believe I was getting a great black friday deal for 3x soaps - but no - instead I was getting a really terrible "deal" of ONE soap for £6.37. What a waste of money. Yet another example of the importance of reading the awful adverts properly. Also, apparently as well as no such thing as a free lunch there's also no such thing as a great black friday deal.

Only one soap not three
I really like this soap- but I was expecting the box of 3 soaps, not just one.

Very impressed - cauldron method manufactured soap which is a bit special
The fragrance that greeted me when I opened the soap was astonishing - a deliciously clean and traditional soapy smell united perfectly as one scent with an incredibly fragrant orange. It is that clean orange smell joined with a high class soapy fragrance that I like the most about this soap. The whole fragrance is exceptionally well balanced. The soap is made according to the traditional but now, sadly, rare French "cauldron method" of soap making. I've been reading about the amazing cauldron method of soap manufacture and the basic information I have read helps me to understand a little bit how this soap manages to perform and smell in the way that it does. The soap suds are so soft and easy to create even in the very hard water area where I live. This soap is just too good for me to use as an everyday bathroom soap - it is just too nice. That said, I have used it in the shower sparingly (once) and my partner has commented afterwards on how nice I smelled. The fragrance is exceptionally well balanced with an amazing clean sillage rising from my skin with a perfectly combined orange scent. I feel and smell fresh for hours afterwards with a "just showered" feel. The only negative is that now that I have used this soap, other soaps won't come close. I don't know wether or not this is because the skilled cauldron method of manufacture makes the difference but this soap is, by far, better than any supermarket soap or fragranced shower gel I have used. The orange fragrance is also definitely unisex rather than purely feminine. It works for me as a man exceptionally well.

Roger & Gallet Soap – Luxury Scented Bois d’Orange Soap & Lathers Nicely
This 100g soap bar came nicely packaged in a cardboard box and wrapped in pleated tissue paper with a branded sticker keeping it in place. The soap has the branding embossed into the soap and is evidently a premium luxury product which is obvious from the powerful fragrance that you can smell even outside the Amazon packaging! The packaging is eco-friendly and each soap promises to deliver 100 uses although I would suggest you ensure the soap remains as dry as possible when not in use to ensure longevity. The soap takes 80 hours to create each bar using a plant-based cleansing formula, so I can understand that this artisanal soap has a premium price point especially as the soap uses 96% of its ingredients from natural origins. This bois d’orange scented soap lathers well and is fragrant due to the inclusion of parfum which does lightly fragrance your skin for a good amount of time afterwards. This is one of my favourite scents in the range (I’ve tested a few other fragrances) which smells of orange and citrus as you would expect without smelling artificial. The scent itself really carries – it’s almost like a diffuser if you have a small bathroom! Made in France and priced at £6.95 at the time of reviewing, the soap is a bit of a luxury product but I do feel like it is worth the money when you consider the time that goes into production and the longevity and strength of the fragrance.

Pleasant, but not very strongly scented
My wife loves Roger&Gallet, but uses only the shower gels; neither of us uses soap for our hands, we use bottles of hand wash. She liked this soap, though she wouldn’t buy it for herself: “Beautifully packaged. I tested it by using it when showering. It has a lovely smell, though I couldn’t identify it as orange, just vaguely botanical. Unfortunately, the fragrance doesn’t last long on your skin; if I were paying £7 for 100gm of soap, I’d want it to be a bit more powerful. It lathered and washed away well, leaving my skin feeling very clean and soft.”

Luxe soap - from a brand founded in 1862...
In the midst of a debt crisis a few years ago, the one thing I used to buy consistently to make me feel good despite having to do long hours at work to try to turn things around was good quality soap. A small thing, I know - but something that was super-important to me back then. And, let's face it, why skimp? A bar of soap lasts a long time. I'd not tried Roger & Gallet soap before this Bois d'Orange. I like it - there's a woodiness, a real grassiness to it, a hint of patchouli that I found rather less pronounced than that of the 30ml Bois d'Orange Eau Fraiche which I tried recently. As I like this soap - which is beautifully packaged and would make a perfect luxe gift - I'll be re-visiting the Eau Fraiche. Used together, there'll be a layering effect which should give the scent an added boost. After all, a brand founded in 1862 could be worth a second chance.
