The best the cake can get!
This is the only cake recipe book where I have vowed to make each and every cake. The recipes are unique, flavours blended perfectly and designs are stunning but accessible, There is just the right balance of basic information, recipe and pictures. I think this is going to be my very favourite cake book ever.

Excellent book with perfect recipe
Excellent book with perfect recipe, before placed order I was worried as few commented that recipe quantities are wrong, however as I have attended Peggy's lesson and a follower of her creations I decided to go ahead with my order. After received book I have tried out some recipes as follow the exact amount of recipes, all results are came out testy and beautiful! Definitely worth buying this book, try out yourself and don't judge with others' reviews!

Tried and tasted!!
Even though this book is several years old now, it's still a lovely book filled with full colour photos of the delectable cakes that make your mouth water!! I tried out the red velvet cake recipe and it was one of the best I've tasted (not beause I made it!) The sponge was light and moist with a hint of chocolate, unlike most I've tried elsewhere. The back of the book contains a handy list of suppliers, including Peggy's own website where you can buy some of the items used in the book. At the back of the book is an envelope with 2 stencils that can be used to decorate your cake with a pretty pattern in icing sugar. These sell for £6 each. Bought this book for a fraction of the cost as nearly new and very pleased with the saving!

Another beautiful book from Peggy. Lots if different layer cakes. All different recipes. I want to make nearly all of them. The focus here is on the cake rather than the decorating. Not to say that the finished called aren't stunning. But if you have Peggy's other books you could always jazz them up! Perfect for parties. Even some are aimed at children - but anyone would eat them! If you are looking for a change from vanilla sponge and jam filling then you will find what you need in this book.

Amazing recipes. Some of the quantities are a little strange (overestimated) but every one is a winning combination. Slowly working my way through them and never had one fail yet. A must for any wedding cake maker who wants to offer a good flavour repertoire.

lovely book! must have! the recipes are explained in a proper way, very professional. Very good selection of the cakes shown in the book. Some of the recipes are more professional rather for home baker. Over all you cant expect to bake a cake, to level a cake, to put QS/ quantum satis/ syrup on it, to make the smoothest and shiniest frosting without practice. Anyway, the book is great, im using 80 % of the formula in the book! thank you Peggy Porschen!

Fab-u-lous! As always, gorgeous cakery from one of the Queen's of Cakes! A large, gorgeous cake-packed teaching book from our Ms. Peggy. There are 159 pages of instruction that give you all the delicious cake recipes from which to build your cake kingdom. As always, Peggy always has great photography, therefore photographer extraordinaire, Georgia Glynn Smith, provides the visual impact, as well as the photographic directions to help guide you along Peggy's instructions. The pictures are as clear and concise as the writing. The one notation in this book is that there is the assumption that you have cake-baking basics, though the writing is such that with some patience, even a novice will feel comfortable. While there is step-by-step written instruction, only a few have photographic tutorials. Each cake is a work of art in itself. It you were to display these cakes as shown, they would grace your table with a most delicate and ethereal presentation. The pastel hues of the frostings and batters are as beautiful to look at as to consume, such as Vanilla Cloud, French Violet, and Rose and Pistachio cakes. Her recipes are perfect, depending on your tastebuds, but what if you desire something darker or heavier? She has those too such as chocolate, Black Forest, gingerbread, etc. The fillings are just as varied and assorted such as peaches and almonds or passion fruit and mascarpone, as well as the standards that everyone loves. Now, the best kept secret? Her book includes 2 wonderful, full size stencils to help decorate these cakes. They are located in an envelope on the inner back flap of the book. You can use buttercreams, royal icing, or powdered sugar to enhance the loveliness of each cake. Don't need to use them? Then with the help of a lesson in piping tips and piping, you can add piles of thick swirls or perhaps delicate lined features that are perfectly spaced; continue the decor with fresh fruit or cherries or maybe a marzipan pumpkin, to complete your delicate masterpiece. The batters themselves are as varied as you can imagine in that they aren't only plain yellow or chocolate flavors. The tastes range from Spiced Pumpkins, Gingerbread, Red Velvet, Milk & Honey, or even Blueberry & Buttermilk. If you do like the standards, there is a double surprise chapter in which there is both written and step-by-step photography of a "checkerboard cake", as well as a gorgeous Sugar Plum Cake that has a ombré flair with a decorative/photographic tutorial to accompany its fabulousness. At the end of the book, she includes some written and visual tutorials on techniques such as masking a cake to perfection (that's covering a cake, or "dirty icing", for non-Brits) as well as how to layer cakes. Another tutorial, in written and photographic steps, is her Salted Caramel Cake, covered in ganache! Ooooooooh! And in case you're pining for her wedding cake masterpieces, Peggy presents 2 gorgeous, elegant, but simple designs. I don't know how objective I can be with anything that Peggy makes, but the photos will speak for themselves, as well as the well-written lessons. This is a definite addition to your library for which you will be most content. Peace!

Très beau livre sur les layers cakes, complet, avec de nombreuses idées de ganache différentes, et d'associations de saveur et des conseils sur le montage. Pour une première,j'ai réalisé le layer cake Oreo pour un anniversaire, certes cela prend du temps, mais le résultat, en plus de l'effet waouh, était vraiment délicieux. Grâce à ses nombreux conseils, on peut suivre les recettes ou bien improviser en mixant des recettes. Je sens que ça va devenir ma bible!
