Solid build with a design flaw
The VU102 amplifies/speaker switcher looks and feels solid and does the job at switching between 2 different sets of speakers without noticeable degradation in sound quality. It does however have a design flaw whereby the VU meter scale adjustment is inverted, that is, when turning the adjustment knob all the way up to 200W, the VU-meter needle is most sensitive and least so when it's all the way down, at 5W.It should normally be the other way around, so that when the adjustment knob is turned all the way up, the maximum on he scale should indicate 200W, meaning that let's say at an 100W input, the needle should not jump above half the range of the scale. Also, if turned all the way down, to 5W, when the input signal exceeds the said value, the VU meter needle should stay stuck at the right end of the scale. Also, the readings on the scale go from 0 to 100, left to right, as one would expect, meaning that if you set the scale knob to 100W and the input signal is also 100W, the needle should stay on or around the '100' number of the scale. That is not the case however, it works the other way around...All in all, it's a good unit, probably a bit on the expensive side and would be great if it borrowed features like LED dimming and a more elegant look and feel from the more expensive VU3.However, the VU3 although nicer, it has an even bigger functionality flaw in that it doesn't completely switch off audio signal when turned off either by remote or by on-unit button. Both units look and feel premium after all, but the quality control is questionable on both and customer support from Douk Audio is so far inexistent in my experience of trying to get in touch with them.
