I waited tables as a server, and used this style of opener professionally for years. My original one was the exact same design (Pulling's brand) and never broke or was lost. I only decided to buy a new one because the original had a little corrosion on the inside of the metal arm. This new one (Truetap brand) appears to have an better quality finish on the metal, and works just as well as my original one. I also own similar, but slightly different styles of this type of opener, including the high-end Henckel's brand. Regardless, I find myself reaching for the Truetap almost every time because of its superior design. For instance, when you want to pop a bottle cap, the metal arm works simply remains in place without having to extend it outward (like the other brands). Additionally, the flexible joint located midway up the metal arm allows for a smoother operation when applying leverage to pull a wine cork. Beyond that, it's also extremely compact and comfortable to handle, and has a convenient little serrated knife that is quite handy. Since the price is fairly unbeatable, I also worry less about using it day-to-day. This is the opener you'll find yourself reaching for 99% of the time!

This simple device is simple, well-made, works well, and reasonably priced. Its simple construction should also help it to last a long time.

Best wine key for everyday use in restaurants

Love the two level cork pull or whatever you call it. Makes pulling the cork way easier and I will not go back to the non-hinged type cork screw again. Love it for that but it really does feel like ten bucks. I’d pay ten more to get a better user experience. That said, 4 stars for great value and usability. One final thing, I have a strange experience with this that it always feels like I am screwing it in a little Crooked. I did break a cork using this once which was odd. So yeah, I’d pay more to avoid this experience, but for being my first two level hinged thingy corkscrew I’m a fan.

I've used all sorts of wine bottle openers in the past and I normally don't like these types of bottle openers. I prefer the more sturdy wing-style cork pullers, which are larger and heavier. I purchased this bottle opener because I wanted something sleek and easy to carry when we travel. When I received the unit, I was impressed in the quality of the construction. I ended up testing this opener on a few different types of wine bottles with different types of corks and I have to say, I am impressed at how well this one works. The dual hinges work exceptionally well and it removes even stubborn corks with ease. The secret is to make sure the first hinge gets a good bite on the side of the bottle and the edge seats well against the lip of the bottle. Once you get the cork moving a little bit, switch to the second level hinge and use the additional leverage to easily pull out the cork. Verdict: Highly Recommended

I got this because after 2 tries I couldn’t get an automatic opener that would last. I like it because it doesn’t fail, it’s pretty, and cost less. It took me 3 bottles to use with ease. I don’t like the foil cutter so far, but I prefer the one that came with a failed electric opener anyway.

This is the corkscrew that I give away as a stocking stuffer because it's compact, it's easy to work, doesn't require batteries, and it DOESN'T BREAK CORKS. That's all assuming you know how to use it correctly. Being a huge wine snob, I automatically assume everyone has one of these, and then when I see someone rip out a Houdini to open a bottle of wine with a synthetic cork I want to smack them. It will pierce the cork all the way through, and since synthetic doesn't soak up the way real cork does, it will leak when you lay bottles on the side. URGHHH. Using this thing will keep nice corks from breaking. The double hinge keeps them from breaking and gently finesses them out with a good hand. It's easy to use, smooth, and comes in a ton of fun colors. It's a quarter of the price of the pulltap model which does the EXACT same thing. I demo how easy it is-and I keep an extra in my purse most of the time, because most of the time there's a need for the little blade on the end anyway. But for as inexpensive as these are, there's no reason you can't grab a few for every person in your life, in their favorite color. Keep a few on hand as a last minute gift idea, or an oh crap gift. Love Love Love.

It does the job as intended and it’s easy to use. It’s sturdy and I’ve been using it for a while. The color is vibrant. I’m happy with this purchase.

I open a lot of wine and the simpler is best. The double bend to allow the start and finish of a cork is all you need.

Love that it’s so small and comes with a little knife. The little knife we use to cut plastic off of top of bottles, those are so hard and tight to get off usually.
