Not sure about quality control but it does work
Not sure if people are being overly generous but this magnet mount isn't very strong. The reason why commercial versions of magnet mounts are more expensive is that they typically have a pull strength of about 50lbs for a (roughly) 3" magnet. I'd guess this is around 30lbs at the most. The rubber boot is a nice feature but it does also affect the magnet slightly. Electrically this mount does work well. Give it enough ground plane (center of roof) and it performs well. I cut a Laird BB132 antenna and its SWR is right at 1.04 -- not too shabby. The only downside to this mount is the RG-58 coax -- which is typically installed on cheaper mounts. It's not terrible but there's still some power loss. (It's about 24% power loss at the above SWR with 50w.) I'm upgrading to a Browning 5" mount with RG8x and per the calculations, I'll get about +3w greater output. I'll need to verify my SWR is still the same but presuming it is... then I'll probably stick with the RG8x coax. PS. I just noticed the rubber boot on the PL259 came off and slid down the coax. I reinstalled it using hot glue. It seems to be holding.

We wanted a HAM antenna base with the strongest possible magnet and the most waterproof
Pros We are using an antenna designed for mobile use with our home HAM base station. We wanted to mount it on a very heavy cast iron pan with the strongest possible magnet, as the outdoor location is subject to stormy weather. Though we have been having very stormy weather recently here in Los Angeles, our mobile antenna is completely immobile. In addition to the fact that this unit has a super-strong magnet, it also has the best design in terms of rainwater not seeping into the space where the antenna screws onto this base. Cons None that we are aware of.
