Unbelievable value, well thought out. Performance will also depend on your Dust Collector.
Let's start with the basic question: Is this a viable alternative to an expensive, pre-built cyclone? YES. I have been more than thrilled with the performance, though I do wish I had a third arm for installing. You are likely here because pre-made 4in cyclones are kind of rare, and really pricey, since most 4in port collectors are already two stage. I am using a 1.5hp for my shop. What is the catch? Well, you need your own bin, and it needs to be fairly large, to appropriately space the inlet/outlet. If you don't have one already, factor in the price. Another review mentioned an orange box store metal bin ($34ish) and I went with that. It worked out perfectly, but does take up floor space. I had to put mine on a mobile cart, as I basically work in a 1-car garage sized shop. You also will need to cut metal if you go with this route, but the right blade in the jigsaw works wonders... it's super loud to cut, so wear hearing protection. Install time - about 1hr. The toughest part was holding the inner and outer inlet port together while you try and line up the four holes you have drilled, all while feeding bolts through. They include both short and long bolts, and the long bolts were essential in order to apply weather stripping. They really thought it through. The nuts are the type with a rubber-ish interior, so they don't just hand tighten. You have to wrench from the start. I used a fixed wrench and then my impact to drive the bolt. You get the hang of it after the first one. The ports are nice and thick, so they won't snap under pressure, and also have an extremely tight fit (with the PowerTec hose), which is good in my opinion, albeit a bit annoying the first time. I was a bit concerned that the large can may cause suction issues, as you need to move a lot of air. My 1.5hp collector made it look easy, and had so much pressure it caused the metal hose to bend in a bit when initially turned on. If you set up the ports right, and your DC is powerful enough, you get a great flow, and I would estimate it removes 95-98% of chips, and really helps protect your filter if you accidentally vacuum up a screw off of the floor. It took care of the chips and dust on my cabinet saw and 13in planer with ease. I am currently editing a video about the install and performance, and hope to have it up online in the next few weeks, so depending on when you read this, there may be a longer video online to watch, if you need more convincing. Overall, this was a $70 cyclone (plus $20ish for the hose, which you may not need), and I can't imagine a $175 collector can do anywhere near double the performance. You'd basically be going from collecting 95% of dust/chips to maybe 99%, but you have a bag on your collector to pick that up anyways. I will note that due to the power of the suction, you can only fill the can that I chose about 60% of the way before the chips start being picked back up, as there is no inherent feature to prevent that, which other, far costlier cyclones may have, but I don't know for sure if they do. Great buy - 10/10

WORKS GREAT
This thing works perfectly. I used a 30 gallon metal trash can with lid and grounded the can. A little hard to install because of having to cut the metal lid, but the actual product is GREAT. I may buy another to use with my shop vac.

Works great! 4" ports for dust collector
If you’re tired of feeling like you’re working in a sandstorm every time you turn on your tools, the POWERTEC 70292V 4" Cyclone might be your solution. Here’s a rundown of what to expect: Pros: 1. Effective Dust Collection: A well-designed dust cyclone creates a powerful vortex that captures and separates dust and debris from the air, keeping your workspace cleaner and your lungs happier, and your filter cleaner. 2. Improved Air Quality: By effectively removing dust from the air, it helps maintain better air quality in your workshop, reducing the risk of respiratory issues and creating a more pleasant working environment. 3. DIY Upgrade: This kit is designed to be used with existing dust collection systems, making it a straightforward upgrade that can dramatically enhance your current setup. Cons: 1. Assembly Required: Setting up a dust cyclone kit can be a bit of a project. Expect to spend some time assembling and possibly modifying your existing equipment to make everything fit together properly. 2. Space and Compatibility: This is a 4" dust port for use with a dust collector not a vacuum. Additionally, make sure it’s compatible with your current setup before purchasing. Overall: The Dust Cyclone Kit is a fantastic upgrade for anyone looking to improve their dust collection system. While it does require some assembly and may need a bit of space, the enhanced dust control and cleaner workspace make it a worthwhile investment for serious woodworkers and DIY enthusiasts.

Works great!
Installed these on a metal trash can. I just used the provided template to cut the holes in the lid with a jigsaw, drilled the holes. I added 3/8" weather stripping to both fittings for a good air tight seal and attached them to the lid with the provided screws and nuts. I also added weather stripping to the rim of the can. You can see in the photo it is doing it's job and separating the shavings so they don't go into the dust collection bag. Much easier to dump them out of the can and it saves wear and tear on your dust collection system.

Forget the $$$ cyclone!
I was looking at pre-built cyclones when I stumbled on this kit and decided to give it a try. Picked this up along with a 30g metal trash can for $30 from the big box store. Very easy to install and works great! I cleaned out my shop vac and it captured about 90% of the chips and dust in the trash can. Saved over $100 going this route and it's also a smaller form factor than the tall cyclones.

A great solution at an even better price!
I have a twin blade planer that makes rather large shavings which, of course, clogs a standard dust collector. I also run rather large batches through my planer so I needed a solution that would work with a large container. I just set this up with a 55 gallon drum and it works phenomenally. What an elegant solution at great price.
