I'd get four, although you may only need 3. It depends on the sie of your hook and how tight you crochet. Also, I found a 15mm hook works best.

How thick is it? Need to know asap

Use a 15mm crochet hook for best results. I tried a 25mm earlier and it was too loose and holey.
