The water tube is plastic and will not break as easy as the glass ones. It fits well in the metal post stand which sticks into the ground easy. Easy installation and the large numbers on the tube are easy to read. Fair price and a good investment.

Item looks good. As far as it being frozen proof, I don’t think so. This is my second one that I’ve had the first one cracked with the frost.

What can you say about a rain gauge, it works well. But, seriously, I have two different gauges and they both measured the same during the last three rain storms.

It's a nicely built rain gauge, easy to assemble and "install". Everyone says that it's easy to read, and it's true that the numbers are large enough to be seen from where we view it, about 15 feet away. BUT we can't see the level of the rain within the tube. We haven't had a heavy rain event yet, but smaller amounts are undetectable on the gauge...maybe when we get an inch or more, it might be visible. I'll probably construct a small disc float the sits on top of the rainwater. This one addition would've made this product PERFECT.

I like the size of the water container and the numbers are very easy to read.

The last one of these I bought froze with 1/8 in of water and cracked. So I went back to good old Amazon and looked at all the rest and bought this one that said”freeze proof.” What to my surprise when I opened the package but to find the following card; “ When it freezes in winter, please try to keep the rain gauge empty because the tube may become stretched and broken.” So much for bad descriptions, lousy products and still another 10 bucks down the drain.

It appears to be well constructed. However it is advertised as freeze proof, but in the instructions it warns against leaving it where it might freeze.

This rain gauge was a bit of a disappointment, but OK. First, it is not very tall. We have a retaining wall in our back yard. We stuck the rain gauge in the ground there which makes it about eye level. Stuck in the ground it is only about 24" tall. Eye level for us, but only because it was on top of the wall. The description on Amazon says it is rain proof, but the directions that came with state clearly that it is not. Be warned. The measurement lines are very close together and hard to read at a distance.
