Missing a vital piece (rubber hose) needed to activate grappler - otherwise excellent.
The recipient LOVED this and it is built well - as should be expected. However, it was missing a single hose needed to operate the closing mechanism of the front grappler. That required me to find a substitute piece from a local car-part store (the only place I could easily find a compatible-sized flexible hose). I suppose that a kit with over 1,000 pieces could miss a piece, but if you think of this like a very expensive 1,000+ piece puzzle, imagine finding out at the end that it is missing a piece. Now explain to the 11 year old not to be disappointed that the mechanics of his new toy aren't as important as his work in building it.

Better than expected
I work in forestry and bought this for myself but my kid loves Lego. The set was a bit complex my son loved the challenge. What I was not expecting was the working parts to this set. First there a couple of small knobs you can use to steer and work the equipment. The really surprising thing was the small air pump and pneumatic cylinders on the set that will actually make the boom and grapple operate. Definitely better than what was expected.

Can’t get enough!
The media could not be loaded. When this set was released, I was so ready to purchase it. Unfortunately, I had to wait a little while, but I purchased it this past weekend, and man it did not disappoint! I love every inch of this thing, from the meaty rubber LEGO tires to the new claw pieces! The creator of this set needs a raise! The assembly was tricky with the tubes being difficult to maneuver in such a tight space, but when they’re on, they’re on! The pneumatic functions for this set make it feel as if you’re pulling the trees straight from the forest. Seeing the pieces work together to lift and close the arm of the Skidder made me feel like I’m 8 years old again watching my dad work on these machines. If you’re hesitant to purchase this set because of the price, trust me. It is worth every penny!
