Excellent
Absolutely fascinating. Michael Ventris must have had an extraordinary intellect. Chadwick tells tye tale very well.

Good introduction to the subject
This is a 1957 book with a 1992 postscript. It also seemed short in length for the money.Being a book by an academic it didn't have some of the drama of cracking Linear B that books on say cracking the Enigma codes do.However it is a very clear depiction of how the script was deciphered and a neat summary of what the tablets containing the script tell us about Mycenaean society. A good introduction to the subject for non-specialist readers.
