Anyone who has owned most types of locking pliers or ‘mole grips’ will know that they are pretty crude tools with loose joints and very poor tolerances.This pair from Knipex is very different. The adjustment screw operates smoothly and has a fine thread, all the pivot points are well made and the jaw itself is perfectly aligned with almost no slop. Additionally there is a cutting edge right by the back of the jaw which looks like it will make short work of thick solid core wire or even nailsYes they are probably the cost of a number of cheap alternatives, but personally I think they are worth it.

I needed a larger pair of mole grips. After reading some of the reviews on Amazon I read the 'best mole grips' article here and ordered the recommended model.I am very pleased with these.I am totally blind, so I cannot comment on the cosmetic finish, but the grips feel smooth where they should be smooth. There is no evidence of any burrs or sharp and unfinished edges anywhere.Some mole grip reviews on Amazon mention gritty or dirty threads on the adjustment spindle. The grips I received did not show any signs of any foreign matter in the threads.There is a very tiny amount, probably half a millimetre or so of lateral movement of the jaws when they are open, but a 250mm set of mole grips is hardly a watchmaker's tool.I can only say these mole grips FEEL of quality, and do exactly what one might want from a set of mole grips.I did rub the thread with a slightly oily rag.Note however, if you lubricate the grips and there is then excessive or even minimal oil residue, then they will pick up any loose crap including grit or iron filings from your tool box or your bench. And don't put them on the sandy ground. These are not a dead lump of metal like a typical spanner. It has moving parts.I will look after mine, and I am sure they will still be fine after this 'rude forefather of the hamlet' has long been 'in his narrow cell forever laid.'And that is the first time Thomas Gray has ever been quoted in a review of mole grips anywhere in the universe.I'm now off to look at the smaller varieties of this tool from Knipex, and possibly the pointed nose type, if they do them

I had two sheared off screws to remove from wood (on a car) there were about 3mm of screw left sticking out of the wood, and ordinary pliers couldn't grip them. This mole grip did the job in a couple of minutes; saved me a load of money having to take the car to the garage and pay for half an hour (or more) of labour to do the job. They are robust, easy to use, and good value for money. A great addition to the toolkit.

The product is fantastic, strurdy, strong and does exactly what it's meant to do... really well... spend the extra few pounds and get this. However, first one from Amazon was in a damaged box and had obvious signs of being used, dents, marks and even damaged jaws, which as I later found out isn't easy to do.I sent them back, got a fast replacement, but same problem, obviously not a new pair. The second pair had no jaw damage and needing them for for job, I used them and love them. Feel a bit cheated by Amazon, but product is great.

I’ve never bothered buying “nice” mole grips before but decided to treat myself after loosing my old work horsesFit and finish is great, the hold really well and securelyEasy to adjust too and not badly priced considering how high end they feelWould buy again but they don’t feel like they will be failing anytime soon
