I have lower back pain that has led to many sleepless nights and caused me to avoid doing the things I love. I have tried several back braces before I finally found this one. I now spend hours working in the yard, lifting, weeding, and raking. This brace has been perfect for supporting my back. No more pain! It is sturdy, well made, plenty of strong Velcro, and stays in place with no bunching up. I love this brace so much I started wearing it on long rides on my motorcycle, as the pressure it takes off my spine has been amazing! I highly recommend! For reference, I am 5'3" and 116 lbs and ordered small. This was a perfect fit.

By 1 size larger than you measure. Quality product.

After using for only 2 weeks, I am ordering a 2nd brace. It comes with 2 sets of stays but I left the aluminum stays in and it's helped much. I have sciatica pain and the radiating pain mostly affects my right hip. It affects no matter what position, especially for me when sleeping and walking. The aluminum stays in it are quite strong and give me the best results when sleeping. Pain in hip drops from a constant 3 to 4 out of 10 to a 1 or even less. The stays are not like a solid board as they are multiple rods so conform to my shape. So, they increase support under my hip when lying down to prevent "sinking curvature" when I sleep. This allows me to sleep 5 to 7 hours instead of just 3!! Also, I can get up and move around much more quickly than before. When lying down, I adjust the brace so that on the right side it is under my hip joint giving the support I need. Secondly, when I am standing the stays direct some of my upper body weight onto my hip bones rather than all on my lower spine. This allows me to walk further without too much pain although I still use a cane either way. Part of the reason for a 2nd brace is I'm borderline at medium to large. I ordered the medium first and now want a large too. Also, I wanted a 2nd brace so that one can be cleaned while wearing the other.

Giving 5 stars to let others know they should get it, even if it didn't work for me. The boning is nice and strong, the material is thick and durable without being uncomfortable, the grips underneath keep it from riding up, and the design for the straps is genius. Unfortunately, I have a short torso (I'm 5'6 and my ribs will touch my hip bone if I bend far to the side) and this was a bit too tall for me. I can't quite get it to fit well around my waist without being too tight around the bottom of my ribs. I also wouldn't mind if the metal boning was curved more like a corset, but I may make my own to insert and try out, as these are designed to swap out! Plus, customer service was great. They answered my questions and provided a refund without the hassle of Amazon's return department.

Update: I received this item approx Feb 4. By middle of May the Velcro strips no longer adhered to each other. It can still be fastened by using one of the side strips over the center closing. But it's not ideal. Thought it was worth mentioning the fact that it appears from reviews that not all customers are suffering from the same condition. ORIGIN OF PAIN: For those who are recovering from injury, you are in a minority and should heed the advice of your doctor or physical therapist. For the rest of us: chronic pain in the lower back is physically and emotionally debilitating! Both the lumbar and SI areas need support (i.e., brace should be at least 10" tall). Support needed for vacuuming and cooking will be different than that needed for standing for a period over 10 minutes or walking more than a full city block. SIZING: Also consider: any product designed for "both men and women" is usually designed primarily for men. So, the use of any back brace is really a matter of trial and error. A woman who is 5' tall, 125 lbs and short-waisted (as I am) will require a different fit than a similar woman who is 5'8", average weight and much longer waisted or an average sized man of 5'10" and 170 lbs. Much of the process is "trial and error" - so don't be discouraged! and if your dimensions are near the limit between sizes, I would recommend always sizing up. No matter what your size, shape and age are, you DESERVE pain relief! And if you have extra skin/fat in your midsection, just get out the tape measure, use it accurately and order a brace that is substantial and will cover you well. COMFORT: Comfort is key. The Camrier Back Brace is now my "go to" for everyday use. It fits compactly under my jeans (even the skinny ones) and gives me confidence to walk without the aid of a cane or a shopping cart. (Many of us with back issues of many types are very fond of using shopping carts as a discreet ambulation aid). The tension provided by the Camrier is ideal and adjustable. I have found that wearing it much lower than described or pictured gives the best support in my case. The bottom front of brace overlaps the pubic bone. Don't be afraid to play around with positioning and with adjusting the tension. Its there to work for YOU! 3D LUMBAR PAD : I found that added piece a bit confusing. It did not seem to improve pain relief or support with my condition but I'm certain it can be very helpful if it is adjusted to hit the right place. DOWNSIDE: my only complaint is that the Camrier brace is not available in pink, light grey or cream I recommend the Camrier back brace without reservation!
