Gentle and powerful at the same time. This book brought clarity to the way I think about voice now.
This book is so gentle and powerful at the same time, encouraging to writers in any field. Early on in this book, this line brought clarity to the way I think about voice:"Ultimately, the writer's voice takes shape in the reader's head." ~ Anne JanzerThis book is especially helpful to those of us who must adapt to different settings and platforms, working simultaneously on different projects. In just one example, Anne Janzer writes of chameleon writers, who must switch their voice often and who come to enjoy that, seeing it as a challenge. If this is you too, Janzer can help you refine your ability to modulate your voice to match your intention, whether you need to write more naturally or authoritatively.Read this book actively and you’ll take away so much more. I raced through the first time. Then I turned back, did the exercises and tested out the ideas in my projects. That made a lasting difference in my writing. You’ll like the free resources and worksheets specifically for this book linked to in the chapters. Also, don’t forget to sign up for the author's newsletter. It's one that I always open and often share.

Invaluable Resource for Any Writer
Anne Janzer's "The Writer's Voice" is an outstanding resource for writers working in any genre. Janzer’s writing is superb; concise, seamless, and easy to follow. The instructions are especially well-written. I found the exercises helpful, especially reading one’s work aloud for accuracy and consistency. It’s amazing how many mistakes can be spotted as well as inconsistencies in voice. I highly recommended Anne’s book and plan to return to it often.

A workbook that will make your writing voice sing
I had the privilege of being a beta reader for this latest work by Anne Janzer. Anne is one of the premier writing coaches, who has produced a series of books on the art and craft of writing that uses the prism of cognitive science to impart vital lessons about the process. As a writer, writing and book coach, I am intimately aware how elusive the subject of voice is. It's difficult to understand, even harder to execute. Anne's workbook leads you through the important aspects of voice and provides a wealth of exercises that will help you tune your voice. I used two of them for the novel I am writing and was amazed at how characters spoke in ways they hadn't before and how they tackled the challenges of points of view. But this isn't just a book for fiction writers. I'm a former journalist who coaches marketing writers. "The Writers' Voice: Techniques for Tuning Your Voice and Style" can help you, no matter what you write. It enables you to get to work immediately to discover the voice you need, whatever the story, in eminently useful and exciting ways. Even better, "The Writer's Process" even manages to make this difficult task fun! Not only does it belong on every writer's desk, it should be wide open so you can regularly take the journey you will take with the inestimable Anne Janzer.

Valuable Resource for All Types of Writers
The Writers’ Voice offers valuable exercises for new and experienced writers alike. This book is designed as 12 weekly lessons, but that isn’t the only way to go through it. For example, I read it as I was editing the manuscript for my fourth nonfiction book, and I appreciated Ann Janzer’s reminders about word choice. There are dozens of ideas that writers can return to when they need a boost or inspiration. I intend to revisit exercises that I didn’t have time to do. All writers can continue to improve their voice to communicate more effectively, and this book is a fantastic resource.

Great for newbies AND experienced writers
When friends and acquaintances ask my advice on writing books, I've sent them to Anne Janzer's books for some time now. She's great at answering the questions that pretty much everyone has. But very few people considering writing a book ask questions about voice even though it's an essential skill. This new workbook has insights and tools that will help you to discover your voice if you're new(er) to writing and to hone and polish it if you've been writing for a while. Broken down into sections that you can do weekly over 12 weeks, or dive in faster, the exercises in the book will help you to solve challenges you may not have even known were there. Anne's own authorial voice is authoritative but accessible, challenging yet encouraging. I've added The Writer's Voice to the list of books I recommend for people who want to take their writing to the next level.
