CAP Barbell Rubber Coated Dumbbell Weight Set with Vertical Rack | 100 lb, 150 lb, and 210 lb Options

After reading the reviews, I was quite hesitant to purchase these dumbbells, but I simply couldn't beat the price of their Labor Day sale, so I took my chances. First, I only received 3 of my 4 boxes. UPS issue, not CAP. More on that later. One of the boxes was rather wet from the oil, or whatever was on the rubber. No biggie. My husband assembled the rack in a matter of minutes after he got a wrench. While he was doing that, I washed the dumbbells (minus the 25 lbs set - which was in the missing box) in the utility sink with Lava soap and my hands. They cleaned up well! Prior to being washed, yes, they were dirty and smelled really bad of new rubber - like a tire shop. After being washed, the odor was minimal. After they were all washed and dried, I placed them on the rack. The rack is quite sturdy, especially with the weights on it. I got the rubber hex ends with the metal grip. The grip is nice, not sharp at all. The tree rack is great for small spaces, but you do have to be careful when placing the weights. It would be quite easy to pinch a finger in/on it. As soon as we were done with the rack, and washing the dumbbells, we got the boxes out of the house, as most of the odor seemed to be coming from them. It's now been five days, and I don't smell them at all. As for the missing box...... UPS insisted they delivered it. When I followed their delivery email, there was an option to see the location of the delivery on a map. They delivered it to a house 23 miles away! I notified UPS, and was basically told to pound sand, even though they knew where they delivered it, and had the contact information for the person that lives there. They told me to contact the seller. I tried to reach Amazon, but could only get their stupid bot that eventually said it couldn't help, and to contact CAP. At least they gave me a phone number. I called CAP, and got a recorded message stating to email them. I did, with all the information - tracking number, address where it should have been delivered, address where it was delivered, etc. I almost immediately got a response asking for the tracking number. (I was really losing hope, but hang in there, CAP did well!) I responded that it was in the email, and provided it again in my reply. That was Friday. In the meantime, I went on a hunt to find the person who lives where the box was delivered. It took all day to find contact information so I could reach out to them. It turns out, they also ordered a 150 lb dumbbell set, and theirs was delivered the same day as mine. Long story short, our orders were processed at the same UPS distribution facility, and one of my boxes was grouped with theirs and sent to them. Fortunately, they were honest, and actually quite nice, and I was able to make the 46 mile round trip and get my dumbbells and bring them home. Fast forward to today. CAP emailed again, stating that they were processing an order to replace my 25 lb dumbbells. They did the right thing, and were doing what they could to correct the issue, even though it was a UPS error. Kudos to CAP!!! (I did email them to cancel the order and let them know that I had resolved the issue myself.) UPS, on the other hand, deserves a 0 star rating for their performance. It's absolutely ridiculous that they know where they delivered a package and refuse to do anything about it.

Great weight set! This set comes with two; 5, 10, 15, 20 & 25 pound dumbbells. Yes, as others have noted, they arrive with an oily film on the handles and there is a significant rubber smell. I suspect that the oily film is a coating on the metal handles that is applied during the manufacturing process to keep them from rusting. I simply wiped the weights down with a mixture of hot water and Dawn© dish soap. The film is no longer present and the rubber smell goes away after a few days. The stand is very sturdy easy to assemble. However, be careful tightening the bolts! I got a little too aggressive and snapped a bolt in half. Overall, I am happy with my purchase.

Very nice weight set and rack. Was surprised to find a 210lb set with a rack for thia price. Liked the look of the black handle with rubber cap so went with that style. Stand was easy to put together and seems very sturdy. Great home gym update, had some mismatched weights but nice to have a matching set with rack. I did wipe them down with a mild cleaner whole setting up since they have a oily film from production and possibly to prevent corrosion during storage/shipping. Noticed people complaining in other reviews about a horrible smell, I believe those people may be a bit sensitive. They dont smell like roses. Like many new products with rubber they do have an odor out of the box, wipe them off and move on. Satisfied with shipping. Came in a total of 6 boxes only one of which was starting to come apart but there was enough reinforced tape wrapping everything that it held up.

Very sturdy rack, if you have the proper tools it doesn't take too long to put it together, I needed help because I didn't had the tools needed but once we got the tools it was a quick assembly. The dumbbells' have a nice grip it is not uncomfortable at all. I love that it comes with the rack so it doesn't take as much space as the ones I had before. It has the right weights, I love them so much, they have made my workouts 100 times better. I love the chrome and black combination. Worth every penny I paid for them.

Good set. Great value. Assembly was easy, and the rack is sturdy and compact. My only nit is the rubber does have an odor, but it wasn't terrible. I just washed the dumbbells with soapy water and a scrub brush, then dried them with an old towel. Took a few minutes, but it cut the odor way down. After a few days, the odor was 95% gone. The rubber might leave a mark on some surfaces, so be mindful of that. For the price, this set is an excellent value, especially considering what it must have cost them to ship it.

These are great. It’s a good size and has good grip. For a while, even after cleaning, it would leave some black residue so be careful on clothing, carpet, or walls. I have stains that refuse to come off but are small enough to go unnoticed. It has a slight smell of paint that lasted a while. They are comfortable to use and they look great. Came in good condition. I’ve had them for about a year now and they still function well.

Important! The rubber smell is STRONG when you first get these, but it really does reduce over time. I use them in a home office with a closed window and a usually-open door. For the first couple of weeks the smell was almost unbearable -- but by week 3 it isn't bad. I even work with the door closed sometimes, now. So if you get these, plan for that initial rubber smell and maybe let them sit in a garage for a few weeks... But it does get better. The weights themselves are awesome - the rubber hex shapes don't scratch your floor... And most importantly, the slots for the weights are wide enough that they don't pinch your hands! (Unlike some other brands.) Once assembled it feels solid and very durable. It doesn't look for feel cheap... And for anyone who works from home -- it's a great way to complete a workout by doing exercises here and there throughout the day. Just plan for a few weeks for the rubber smell to die down. Again, by 3 weeks it's not bad -- and judging from the half life, in 6 weeks it probably won't be noticeable at all. I'll be sure to follow up around week 6... But it's already acceptable for indoor use.

Good quality with a very sturdy feel. Easy to set up if you have an extra wrench. Great value for a full set of weights. There was a bit of oil on the bar, so it needed to be wiped off before use. The only reason for the 4-star rating is the smell — it’s strong and lingers in the room for days. I highly suggest leaving the weights outside for a few days before using them indoors.
