Simple, effective, but alas the laser-plane effect eluded us
This is a clever (but somewhat DIY) kit of parts that lets you mount and aim the pump laser. The horizontal effect is achieved by means of a little prismatic plastic lens, and the laser is focused by turning the end-ring. That plastic lens came out with the protective warning sticker, and with no instructions I wasn't even sure whether it was packaging or part of the laser. The metal base has holes so you could mount it with screws. The armature has a friction fitting on both ends so it's highly repositionable. It connects to the base plate with two nuts and a lock washer. The laser core is held by a bracket with one screw to the armature and two lugs securing the laser. It's like a DIY rig but with some hard to find parts. The cord has a nice plastic toggle switch, for example. That part is pretty nice.So now to review the laser effect... I just couldn't get it to work. You can't see it at all in ambient light. And in pitch black conditions it is subtle if visible at all. I tested it with some water vapor, and with some smoke from some wood shavings and a kitchen cooking torch. I studied the pictures in the product listing for suggestions on how to make it work, and I do think that's a real photo - a very dark room and from a shallow angle just above the plane of the laser. Two stars for effort. If we're doing something wrong, they should include instructions.

There is no instruction and little clue on how to use it
No manual, no assembly instructions, and there is nothing to indicate how this unit can be used. Do I need to run dry-ice to see the effect? I am sure there are people out there who know exactly what this unit can be used for and how to use it, but I can only put all the parts together and turn it on to see some blue lights, that is it.
