Nicely bound heavy paper, lots of illustrations and photos. Well organized, starting with the basics. Builds skills through sewing the included PDF patterns. Alison Smith is a wonderful instructor and the reason I purchased this book. I will use it as a reference book for complicated design elements like welt pockets and linings.

It's like the Reader's Digest sewing book for the 21st century. A good reference for basic sewing techniques.

Fantastic for learning about tailoring. My mother taught me how to sew. She was a professional seamstress. But tailoring was beyond my ability. This manual made it so easy to “tailor” my ability. Kudos for making the instructions easy and for the diagrams/illustrations.

I love this book. Its helped me refresh on my skills as I chose not to do an apprenticeship but to do self study because I learned to sew as a child. I’ve learned so much about new products and it’s very detailed. I recommend for people at all skill levels. It’s like the tailoring bible :)

This is a great addition to my sewing book library. It is so comprehensive as to be suitable for sewers of all capabilities. It begins by showing some of the basic requirements and finishes with patterns (downloadable) for a self-sewn wardrobe. As it is published by Dorian Kindersley the photographs are clear and self-explanatory.

The book is amazing. Love the instructions. I have watched some You tube videos with the author of this book, she is such a good teacher and this is also reflected in this book.

Alison has significant experience in tailoring and couture but also knows the faster ways of doing things. She gives both in this book. It’s for the experienced and the beginner as everything is so well photo’d with excellent explanations. A must buy book.
