This is not a nautical instrument, nor is it a working sundial, at least, not yet. It is, however, really cool. If it can spark someone's interest in sundials, I'm all for it. Sundials are not hard to build. What tells me this is not accurate is 1: The degree scale on the side is not centered on the compass or the flip up Gnomon. It has two different readings, top and bottom. 2: The gnomon is set at an angle of 57 degs. Same as the Great Pyramid. 3: Instead of Roman Numeral 'IV', they used 'IIII'. ??? I'm going to play around with it some more and do the math.Maybe I can figure it out, but I think it just looks cool, and is not functional and well worth it for the price. It was two hours off at 30 degs north lat. It might work at 57 degs, up by the Arctic Circle. LOL Put it on your desk. The compass seems accurate, but the degree markings aren't clear. The center rose is well done. To remount your compass needle when it gets cattywampus, hold it upside down and flip it over fast. It needs to rest on the needle at the fulcrum. Well worth it. For the price I expected a little pocket gadget. This looks like a professional instrument and seems to have the quality of one. Leveling feet, compass pointer damper and stopper? It would make a fantastic gift to give to a nerd (like me). I would say in a nice store in the mall this would easily sell for 50 bucks. That's what I would pay for it. Get it, you won't regret it.

I love the look fit and finish But unfortunately, it came with no instructionso. Even though it's a beautiful item to have on your desk. It would be nice to actually use it. Please post instructions or a link or something.

No information given whatsoever with the product so I have no idea how to use it. The compass seems locked and now I'm going to have to search the internet for a perfect copy and find directions myself. Deduct 2 stars for no directions.

Neat historic nav device. A little flimsy on a coupel parts but totally worth the money. it was a gift for my dad and he really liked it.

No instructions. Agree with the reviewer who wrote 'how does it work.' Tell us, please. I see how it opens up. What is the degree marker for? How do you see the time? Nothing provided to tell us how to set it up which is why I have rated low. Can't give as a gift if it doesn't work.
