The Groovy Guru and his Sacred Cows
I have previously had the regular ink blue official Kindle cover and broadly liked it, for all its failings. But it was looking a bit tired, so I leapt at the chance to upgrade it to this aniline leather cover. The leather looks fabulous - but it does mark. It even came with a scuff/scratch on the back but there is little point objecting to it as it will pick up heaps more scuffs in due course. The cover is supposed to mark and look a bit bished - it's called character. The finish is matt and porous - think suede but not such a coarse texture - and will presumably pick up marks from sweaty fingers too. One difference between this cover and the regular Amazon ones is that the rubber surround that holds the Kindle is black, not the colour of the leather. The cover fits as well as the previous ink blue one- perfectly snug and secure. It has the same denim-like panel opposite the screen - meaning when you use the cover, you'll fold the front cover back on itself and all the lovely leather will be hidden. People will just see the screen and the grey denimy panel. The magnet secures the cover closed and turns the device on and off - but a failing with the design is that the magnet bangs on the rubber surrounding the device; over time this starts to distort the rubber and you get part of the surround being bashed out of shape where the magnet hits it.Another failing of the design is that the glue that joins the leather to the cardboard starts to "melt" and come loose at the edges. It's not a big problem but can add to the tired look after a couple of years. This seems to be just the same on this aniline leather version. The cover is expensive - no way of getting around it. But it does look good and is a vast step up from the badly fitting shells or elastic corners of competitor products. And on the grand scale of things, the cover is about the same price as three hardback books. The amount you save by reading Kindle editions will mean you come out ahead, even if you do splash out on an expensive cover. Kindles need covers; less expensive solutions exist and whether you want to pay this much for a cover will be a matter of personal preference. Personally, I have no regrets.

Good but pricy - bags of character and well worth a little effort
Distinctive - particularly if you're after a shabby-chic look. Mine arrived with minor scratches and scuffs - the leather feels like nubuck, a bit rough to the touch and scuffs on every touch - just getting it out of the box it generated more marks.... It will, no doubt, quickly acquire a patina with use. That aside it is decent real leather and application of Brooks proofide quickly removed the marks and revived the somewhat thirsty leather. Left overnight the proofide had fully adsorbed and the case was ready to use. It fits perfectly, looks great and is secure in the hand. The proofide darkened and softened the leather slightly ( imho a good thing ) but retained the comfortable grippy feel and great looks. Note - don't use a lot of porofide - a little goes a long way and the leather will feel a little oily until it has fully absorbed into the leather. Irrespective of your choice of leather dressing, don't be put of by the scuffs and high price - this is a great case and with a little care will last for years and years. Wish I'd bought mine as a refurb - am sure there are plenty of less discerning users out there who don't understand leather and how to treat it and who will have returned a perfectly good case because of a couple of minor scuffs.

Pricey but probably worth the extra money paid
Really nice case. Ordered mine on Christmas Day and it was delivered 2 days later. I somehow managed to order 2 and was unable to cancel the duplicate which meant I was able to compare more than one case at the same time, had I have received just the first case I opened this would have been a very different review, as the first one was covered in scratches and scuff marks, it also had what appeared to be patches of glue on the leather which appeared shiny in places. I quickly repackaged that case and opened the 2nd which I'm pleased to say is beautiful, although much darker and less chestnut red than the product pictures would have you believe. It also smells like only good leather does.Whilst I wouldn't recommend ordering and paying for 2 cases, in this instance it did turn out to be serendipitous as the shoddier item was returned and refunded within 2 days and I am left with a lovely item.

Like most people say in here
Like most people say in here, quality of this cover is top notch, really is. The fit to the kindle is perfect, the look and feel is amazing. Where it looses a bit for me is that the kindle by itself is a reasonable weight but with this cover it all becomes a bit heave for a long read. Also, as could be expected, it doesn't provide for an angled support when reading - even the landscape reading mode is difficult to get to stand with the metal piece on the front makes it slide on almost any surface.Bottom line, for looks, feel and travelling this is awesome, for actual reading it's a bit cumbersome. I still give it 4 because looks and feel really are that! good.

The leather is simply beautiful. The color of my cover is a little ...
This is an aniline leather version of the regular official leather Kindle cover (which, I have to say, feels very cheap next to this one). The leather is simply beautiful. The color of my cover is a little darker and less red than on the product pictures, but is still a noticable "chestnut" color. Ialso have to say that it smells really good, hehe.As the description says, "it will wear and patina naturally with use". As with other aniline or suede leather types, this means that scratches are easily visible, so I find myself being a bit more protective of it, not in a small part because of its relatively high price. Some might say that defeats the purpose of a cover.Since everything except the leather is identical to Amazon's regular cover, I'm slightly worried that the narrow rubber edge of the front cover is prone to wearing off in a strange "melting" fashion, as happened to my old cover (after a couple of years of use). We'll see. Apart from that, though, I'm sure this cover and I will have a good life together.
